Is there is an easier way

Hello,
I downloaded a plane to repaint and after doing so... The plane comes out all gray no color. I tried for second time but the result was the same.
Please help me...what am I doing wrong?? Is there any free ware that will make repaint easier?

First I thank you for your quick response
The plane I downloaded is C337. I liked because I never saw it before.
The instruction that came with it said
"1. Unpack/extract the contents of the main zip-file into FS2004's Aircraft folder.
2. Unzip the contents of Gauges.zip to the \Gauges directory of FS2004".

I did that but I never played with the .cfg files. I used Corel Paint Shop Pro
and saved them as 24 bit bmp. I don't know if I answered your questions properly

That is a pretty standard download & install.

When you first installed it did you try it with the default paint and did it work?
