Why do you think the management is so reluctant to require registration for the forums in order to combat ever-increasing amounts of spam in the forums?

I didn't vote because none of the options applied. I think Flyaway is reluctant to introduce member only posting is because the money from registering users is used to pay for the website and its bandwidth etc. If you got rid of guest posting and forced everyone to pay $5 to join, it would decrease the popularity of Flyaway as in the site because people can't just pass by and ask a quick question - they have to take time to register.

Basically, I think the money is needed and it makes the site more popular and flexible by having guest posting.

None of the above. They (Fly Away owner-s)had read statistics...The more people get in for free and post and find infos the more fishes they will bite the 5 dollars bait.

Personally from the 10 times i visit sites which are asking for e-mails to log in the 8 i go away....

Spams is the price of free log in but its automatically ignored if you calculate the following Arrow

80275 x 5 = Shocked

Its business.

I would always want to know if we are the first in members numbers and which site is the second and with how many members...

Most forum software has the ability to have more than one class of membership, so the requirement for a membership fee for forum posting rights is not a requirement.

I do the following at omega-air.org. One class (non-VA members) of forum membership may post to the general forums, while the VA membership can post both to the general forums and the Omega-Air members-only forums.

Anonymous posting is not permitted under any circumstance.

In other words, give the guests the ability to register for the forums without paying a fee. Permit access to the extensive download section Rolling Eyes and galleries to paying members only.

How many of those 80275 have been active in the forums in the past day/week/month/year?

And why would anyone object to free registration to join a forum? Vatsim, FS Passengers, Captain Sim, PMDG, Flight1 and many others require it. Their forums are quite active.
