Throttle control add-ons

I was wondering why multi-engine throttle control add-ons are so expensive and is there anyway around that? I have a saitek x-52 controller so I suppose I could assign throttle controls to some of the buttons or sliders of the x-52. Are there any build your own kits or plans for throttle controls?
