I don't know if this has been suggested before but if not you might want to try this.
Go to START>RUN and type MSCONFIG
Click on SELECTIVE STARTUP and remove the checkmark from LOAD STARTUP ITEMS
Click on the SERVICES tab at the top and check the box HIDE MICROSOFT SERVICES then select the box DISABLE ALL.
Click Apply
Click OK
Reboot and run FSX and see if it runs any better

What this procedure does is allow you to reboot using as few system resources as possible.

Finally!

A post that is both usefull and informative, not the usual 'my Windows 95 won't run FSX! what an outrage' rubbish!

knowing me if i tried that i would probably corrupt the whole program.

and if you plan on running windows 98 for FSX you might wanna upgrade just a tad.
