Not sure if you are aware the website Guru3D.com, but with some of their download tweaking tools, I was able squeeze some serious overclocking speed and power from my Nvidia GeForce using Guru3D.com's Rivatuner 2.0 (Final Release) .

I don't know if their stuff is as good for tweaking ATI cards as it is for Nvidia (I got burned by ATI a couple of years ago, and have stuck with Nvidia since), but I was really impressed at the performance the Rivatuner squeezed out of my GeForce.

It used to be that both ATI and Nvidia frowned on overclocking, however now they actually build it in with their newer cards (such as CoolBits 2.0 for Nvidia).
But yes, I'm sure you probably aware of (if not already using) the Rivatuner (and other graphic and speed programs), but it may help others who aren't familiar with it, and need to squeeze a little more "juice" (as FSX is one of the most "thirsty" programs I've ever seen) theirs. |

Great links, thanks. I'll look into them.
The system is quite new so I haven't "fooled" with it much...yet.

I cap it at 20 and it does it.
I've hit as low as 10 and it's still as smooth as glass??
MS either made the mesh much better or the FPS readings are off for everyone.

Yea i noticed that in mine had it set to 20 and it stayed there,
Even when it did drop to something like 8-10 it ran extremely smooth

Particularly like the second screenshot radarman. The scenery and textures around the airport are very impressive. |

Thanks guys.
All the tweaking is done now in the cards control panel.
I set AA to 8X and AF to 16X, increased the mip map to the fullest and turned the brightness up.
I use ATi X1950 (2) Crossfire 512mb.
I haven't used any of the published tweaks yet.

How do areas that are very very dense handle? How much system RAM do you have for your system just out of interest? |

Not a problem with the default scenery, I'm waiting to see what the do with add on scenery at airports.
I have 4 gigs of DDR2 Duel Channel.

I'm only 10% there with my editing and yes I bought a high end system for FSX, I don't use any other games right now.
Crazy, yes but I enjoy it and my old machine was old, 5½ years old.
