What a waste of talent. I'd like to hear her sing some classics: blues, soul, jazz...

sadly, she will never look as good as she did on the right, ever again.
being entirely too familiar with the ravages of heavy addiction, i have seen the consequences too many times. until you have been close to someone who has done this to themself, or done it to yourself, it's extremely difficult to fully understand how tragic it is. i'm not yet 43 and 3/4ths of the kids i used to pal around with as a kid are dead or in jail. mostly dead. the sucky thing about being the coolest guy in the graveyard is, your still dead. |

I still don't understand why people would take drugs when they know its gonna ruin their lives. |

Do you like chocolate?
What if I told you it was bad for you, would you still eat it?
This guy ate 2 much chocolate! (twice a week!)

My previous post on Amy Winehouse was poorly conceived... I should have known better. We're all too much in love with the sensationalistic style characteristic of tabloids. The picture messed up my message
I'd never heard of Amy prior to reading WF's post. As this is a topic about music and we seem to be shackled to YouTube, I will not watch the accompanying clip when I listen to a new song suggestion for the first few times. That MTV style crap is only trying to distract from the fact that in most cases the 'music' just isn't there. Kids who literally grew up with MTV aren't aware of this fact.
When I listened to Amy for the first time, her strong voice grabbed me straight away. Then I heard that she not only has talent as well, but that she already can sing. That is a very rare thing these days.
I think her talent is wasted for several reasons. She grew up at a time when teenagers are made to believe by the media and later by their producers that they can 'write' songs. That believe sticks to them and they cling on to it as a matter of prestige.
I don't mind Amy's lyrics, it's what she wants to say and she's honest about it. I don't like the fact that her only resource for the rhyming in lyrics seems to be rap style... too superficial, lacking basic skills.
The music she writes also reflects the time she grew up in: Every song appears to be dominated by Minor Modes. A song or piece of music written purposely in a minor key is a different thing.
All in all, the WAY she writes, be it the lyrics or the music, I don't think much of. My idea would have been for proper songwriters to write some songs for her. From what I read though, she'd probably be unwilling to record them because it's not her "own stuff" --- hence my reference to a "Waste of Talent".
The picture underneath was very distracting as it seemed to be connected to the word 'waste'... the former buxom beauty 'wasted' away to a mere skeleton.
So now y'all are gonna look at that pic again and STILL NOT listen to her singing |

TBH I do not like either her looks or her singing... I suppose once upon a time she may have rivaled Diana Ross... but she is pale by comparison. US AIR TALES- Stories of one man's virtual life as a pilot |

So... stalemate - never mind, we have different perceptions and different tastes. I think that's why we're called 'Individuals'
But don't say that I didn't warn you about this MTV nonsense and YouTube in particular!!!
Oh, I know, I might as well be talking to a wall... ...perhaps a little shock therapy would be appropriate?
This is what YouTube will turn you into in the end; no wait - if you haven't got the time to watch it to the bitter end (or perhaps you're a bit scared?)- don't bother clicking on the link. If the music isn't to your liking (I pride myself in only presenting 'stuff' out of my 'aquired taste' memory bank), mute the sound and just watch instead of listening... what am I talking about that's what you're doing anyway.
Goodbye cruel world, I'm leaving you today
goodbye... goodbye... goodbye...
Here it is then, my swan song:

Honestly I miss the old days... when musicians were judged not on how flashy their video was, but their TALENT.
Too much emphasis is placed on the commercialization of music than actual artistic talent... but then I am biased here.

Hey bel, I'm getting the feeling the sarcasm in my post didn't catch? We just don't have enough emoticons...
I hope you didn't get the impression I was targeting you or anyone else in particular. Just wanted to get away from the chocolate addiction and back to music.
What are you still doing up anyway |

I usually do not go to bed till about 1:30 ish... eastern time... so I have about 25 minutes.
My comment was a generality, not specifically aimed at your post.
I've been celebrating tonight (Giants win... should shut a few ppl up at work tomorrow).
Actually speaking of music.. my vocalist friend Jen offered me a bass spot in a band she is working up... not sure if I should get back into the swing of things as it were, but I have till the 16th to decide. US AIR TALES- Stories of one man's virtual life as a pilot |

WARNING: NO Video - Audio only
Gaudio was driving to the studio in NYC when he was stopped at a three-minute light. A little girl with ragged clothes and dirty face ran up and cleaned the windshield. As the light changed, Gaudio rummaged frantically through his pockets in an effort to find a quarter to pay the girl. The smallest piece of money he could find was a five-dollar bill so he gave her the currency. She was speechless, but he remembered her stunned look at the studio, where he composed the song.

''RAG DOLL'' BY THE FOUR SEASONS
The Four Seasons were part of America's last Caucasian bulwark against the British invasion of the early 1960s. The group, who formed on the streets of Newark, N.J., in 1961, epitomized the doo-wop harmony sound and street attitude of the duck-tailed '50s, but they also blended in R&B vocal influences that kept the sound and the attitude fresh. From 1961 through 1967 - the year the Beatles changed music forever with Sgt. Pepper's - The Four Seasons made the Top 10 13 times, with hits including "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Dawn" and "Let's Hang On." These came after nearly a decade in which the members of the group - lead vocalist Frankie Valli, whose piercing falsetto was the group's trademark; keyboardist and vocal arranger Bob Gaudio; guitarist Tommy DeVito; and Nick Massi on bass - had kicked around the music business, collectively and individually. Valli had formed a nascent version of The Four Seasons, called The Four Lovers, which included DeVito, in 1956; Gaudio was a member of the Royal Teens, along with Al Kooper, and had penned the group's biggest hit, "Short Shorts." As The Four Seasons, they filled in small-time club appearances with studio work as background singers in the Manhattan studio scene.
