I know how to make it look red, not sure if any other color work though.

Find the Extra 300 aircraft.cfg and search for the following lines "[SMOKE SYSTEM]" in that section you should see a part that says "fx_smoke_w" change the w to an r and save it. Start up flight sim and it should be red. You could try different letters to see if there are any other colors. But red is the only one i know of right now. To make it white again just put back the w where you put the r.

What ever effect you list in the smoke section of the aircraft.cfg file is what you'll see. You just have to try putting different ones in and see what they look like.

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=-53.00, 0, -0.0, fx_smoke_w

-53 is the distance fx_smoke_w is the effect
away from the plane
this section can be put in the aircraft.cfg file of any plane. You might have to adjust the distance part so the smoke is coming out close to the end of the plane.

You could even have the contrail of the ufo in one of the acceleration missions come out of the back of the plane. Just try to find it in your effects folder.

is -53 the same for all aircraft?

Pro Member Trainee

no, that is how far forward or behind the effect will show. In this case, it is 53 ft behind the middle of the plane. Adjust that number to move the effect forward or backwords.

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=-53.00, 0, -0.0, fx_smoke_w
-53.00 is back and forth.
0, is left and right
-0.0, is up and down.

My highly modified F-16 has wing smoke, see here.

[smokesystem]
smoke.0=-10.00, 15, -0.0, fx_smoke_w
smoke.1=-10.00, -15, -0.0, fx_smoke_w

THIS IS FOR THE STANDARD ACCELERATION F18

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=-53.00, 0, -0.0, fx_smoke_*
smoke.1 =-33, -20.00, 1.40, fx_smoke_* ,
smoke.2 =-33, 20.00, 1.40, fx_smoke_* ,

replace the * with the letter of the smoke colour eg r = red - default fsx are w & R but i have made green and blue too,

sweet! thanks!!!!

one question...ho do you get the green and blue? cause when i try it, it just makes my smoke not work all together.

Pro Member First Officer

it works on the primary colours principle. each number is the % of each primary colour

what letters do I put in for geen and blue?

elliotf6 Guest

HI, I HAVE A RED ARROW AND I REALLY NEED THE BLUE SMOKE CODE COZ IM DOING RED,WHITE AND BLUE SMOKE...CODE FOR BLUE SMOKE? PLEASE

sjdb14 Guest

Here is the coding for some very patriotic smoke (tested on F16).

It goes:

BLUE-RED-WHITE-BLUE-WHITE-RED-BLUE

xx = next number in sequence

Copy this and paste in aircraft.cfg...

[SMOKESYSTEM]

smoke.xx=-10.00, 15, -0.0, fx_smoke_b
smoke.xx=-10.00, -15, -0.0, fx_smoke_b
smoke.xx=-10.00, 10, -0.0, fx_smoke_r
smoke.xx=-10.00, -10, -0.0, fx_smoke_r
smoke.xx=-10.00, 5, -0.0, fx_smoke_w
smoke.xx=-10.00, -5, -0.0, fx_smoke_w
smoke.xx=-10.00, 0, -0.0, fx_smoke_b

sjdb14 Guest

Code would be:

smoke.xx=AA, BB, CC, fx_smoke_b

xx = next number in sequence
AA and CC should be the same as your other colours but BB controls left to right, so you'll need to experiment and find the correct number for correct position (0.0 = centre).
