Just curious to see if anyone else has any "issues" with the vabase system ?
Here is my experience....no judgments...no slander...just the facts.
I went to the vabase site and found the system to be very interesting, and since I am starting a new site decided to purchase it.
I hit the PURCHASE button ( after carefully reading the page ) and patiently awaited my scripts.
About 24 hours later they arrived with the line in the email....
"Please note this software licence will expire on 03/02/2010. A fee of $15 will be required for renewal."
This shocked me as no where on the site does it even hint at the fact that this is a subcription software.
I will say the the subscription checking code is working, as apparenty my subscription has not yet been activated, and will not now.
I am personally not happy with this and feel mislead by the website. I honestly thought that my $40.00 CAD would have purchased me my own copy of the scripts.
I asked vabase to refund my purchase price, as I do not want to subscribe to anything to have to use this software. Since the scripts are unusable without activation on their end I don't see how this would be a problem.
They flattly refused.
I have since placed a dispute with Paypal over the issue, because although some may say its not alot of money, for me its the principle.
Just be advised, those that are thinking of "purchasing" this software, that it is a subscription, not a purchase. ( As long as you go in knowing that )
I am now going to give phpVMS a go ( I should have looked to fly away for advise first I guess, live and learn ) |

Well after many emails...here is the update...
They have waived the yearly fee under the understanding that I will get no updates. They need a website address for that security system you mentioned so I have started a free website, and sent along that address.
Here is a little tidbit from their last email....
"A note: Paypal do not refund for electronic software/products. If by any
chance you do get a refund, we will be forced to seek legal redress through
the courts.
I hope this clarifies our position.
Regards,
vaBase Support."
Just the facts..... |

Well apparently paypal cannot help. They do not deal with "quality" issues.
I do find it strange that vabase would hold such total disregard for their customers, and that they can blatantly miss advertise their product and not be held accountable to it.
My intent was to use it on a closed intranet, something that is not possible, and yet not mentioned anywhere before purchase.
It can only be used if for each and every page load the script can communicate with the vabase system and verify not only that you are registered, but also from what URL you are using the software. In my opinion that makes it even less of a purchase and more of a rental, and apparently a rental with a company that cares not about it's users.
I have a sneaking suspicion that this is not a company at all but just some snot nose kid scamming the the FS community for a buck. Lets hope that they have lots of friends saying good things about them, because I don't suspect that real customers would have anything good to say. ( at least not those scared off by the multitude of idle "legal" threats. )
Fortunately I have had the scripts looked at by my IT department and no longer require any contact with vabase.
( and if the vabase kids read this, before you threaten legal action ....yet again....I have not "altered" any of your screwy code....)
After all is said and done. If you ask me my opinion, not a good purchase, script, or company. The adage "buyer beware" has never help more truth. |

Sorry to hear that you got screwed over like that! Suppose all you can really do is get the word out that their product isn't what they advertise...
The threat to go to court for a refund had to be a bluff though; nobody goes to court over 40 bucks. |

first of all....LOVE your avatar !
As for the rest, it's behind me now. I've lost the money, and told the story, hopefully it will help people make a more informed choice. |

I'm a fan as well, though it does sometimes lead me to have a beer or two when I have class the next morning... |
