Most airliners behave like jet fighters when unloaded... My dad flies the MD88 and the other day he had a leg with only 2 pax on board. Said he was getting 6000fpm rates of climb while accelerating from 250 to 320 knots; better than an A-10 could do loaded for combat. (He used to fly the A-10 as well.)

Haha, I believe it was a redeye and the reason they didn't cancel it was because they needed the equipment moved.
