When rumours emerged that Microsoft was going to abandon the FS franchise, the brainwashed MS cultists worldwide almost simultaneously skipped a heartbeat which resulted in a tremor strong enough to be recorded on the Richter scale... I am kidding you not, my desk shook and I thought it was the usual FSX slideshow Shocked

Anyway I dared to utter on several occasions in different forums that it might be just what the community needed and good riddance... there are plenty of developers out there with experience AND fresh ideas, we do not need the Aces team to keep the hobby alive and thriving.
As usual, my stance on what has become an orthodox institution did not gain me any popularity - on the contrary. (Some of you know that popularity is the least of my concerns. Wink )

"Aerosoft is currently seriously investigating the development of a new simulator, directly aimed at replacing FSX. "

Now this should shake up those who until now have been skeptical of Tailhook's greatness and prophetic qualities

Ok, back to earth, check out for yourselves what is being deliberated at Aerosoft and by all means, DO utter your opinion here. We don't have to flame and fight but what some of us are thinking on these possible developments could make for a nice debate.

Oh yes, the line below this is the link... you simply click on it and start reading...

I'm personally all for fresh blood in the 'industry'. I think real world business shows that standards and customer satisfaction are generally driven down by a monopoly since customer satisfaction becomes the lowest denominator.

The only worry I have is that MS has been at this since....well I can't remember the year they started with MSFS but at least early 1990s. Love them or loathe them, they've created a sim every few years that (for the most part) has been in some form or another, an improvement on the previous attempt. The extent to which it has been an improvement is subjective, of course. They have had years of experience with the sim and I wonder whether all of that experience is what has created the likes of FS9 and FSX. That leads me to wonder whether something made by a new company with new developers and new code will be inferior.

The big test for Aerosoft (if they created the sim) would be to deliver a product that is both stable, usable and realistic. If they fail one of those hurdles, they'll shatter any confidence and leave everybody tied to MS. I think Aerosoft are aware of this since their reports of creating a sim seem to reek of tentativeness.

In the FS world, Microsoft has become the norm and the institution. I would hazard a suggestion as to that's why X-Plane never really had the following it could have potentially attracted.

Competition = competitiveness, and for that reason, I'm all for it. But they need to succeed and not fall flat on their faces. If they do that, they'll not only look silly and amateurish in comparison to MS, but they'll shake off any confidence they might have had before they released it...

Just my thoughts.

Great find Tailhook Very Happy , and i'm sure that this thread is going to last a while. What could they improve on ? Apart from the water textures pretty much everything, from Europe looking like a desert in summer Shocked to the aircraft sounding like hairdryers and missing lights on the 737 ,oh, and the fact that you need a computer from Langley to run it properly!
I think the reason x-plane did'nt "take off" Rolling Eyes is that it did'nt have the depth of previous MSFS, it's aircraft were good but it's scenery was very basic, and at the same price of a MSFS it was a no brainer which one to choose!
So lets see what develops here and if they go ahead, will they listen to what people want and will it be cost effective?

X-Plane's got a head start! All he's gotta do is make a product that's actually usable, and not quite so ugly...
