When flying in a commercial jet, can anyone tell me how and why to use the auto brake switch?

Seems to me that the autobrake switch doesn't work in the VC on the default aircraft, you've got to switch to the 2d cockpit to make it work properly.

Autobrakes are used on takeoff and landing-- On takeoff they are set for maximum deceleration in the event that you have to abort the takeoff. All you do is pull the throttle back to idle and the spoilers should auto-deploy and the autobrakes engage... automatically.

On landing they give you a constant rate of deceleration (based on the setting you pick) once you lower the throttles to idle.
