Welsh,
The Yorktown was badly injured at The Battle of the Coral Sea and slowly made it back to Pearl.
It was estimated for 3 months of repairs but instead had all repair workers on board just a few days later to join in The Battle of Midway, the battle that changed the outcome of the Pacific Campaign.
It was there that she was sunk after being reported by the Japanese as sunk at The Coral Sea.
3 of the 4 Japanese carriers went down, the 4th was hurt bad enough to make it to Tokyo Bay never to leave again, it was then that we had command of the skies in the move from island to island towards the Japanese mainland.

NO no. you were right, I just gave details.
I was always fascinated by the "game" we played to get the Japanese into Midway and never expected them to send all 4 of their carriers.
Please put them back, I'll remove my post just so others can see and read you magnificent shots.

That's just great - instead of giving Welshflyer an unnecessary history lesson, a simple 'thanks for the great pics' a common courtesy and practice among members would have been appropriate.
Thanks a lot boss |
