Hey,
I've installed a fresh copy of FSX on my new notebook. I've a few questions:
1. Does the new boxed version come with pre installed SP1 and SP2 or I need to install it manually?
2. What should be the sequence of installation of following programmes? I need to install My Traffic X, REX, Wilco 777 package and some scenery/aircraft additions.
3. Some downloads (aircrafts) are showing up with the instrument panel blank. How do I solve this?
Its been over two years without FSX and I think I need little brushing up. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers |

1. If you have Acceleration, yes, if you don't, then no.
2. I'd personally do REX, then the scenery packages (These are the ones that you need to be most careful with, as some conflict etc etc), then the AI, and finally your aircraft.
3. Make sure DX10 is unchecked I suppose, or can you list the particular aircraft that have blank panels? You may need to install another panel into it, as it could be an FS9 panel that I don't think are compatible with FSX. Please direct your complaints to the moon, they might care there. |

Thanks a ton for the promt response.
Yes it is a deluxe edition. So I assume I need to install manually.
I understand the sequence of install. But how do I uncheck the DX10? I'm using Win7 Professional 64-Bit edition?
Also I've heard the REX sceneries look much better with DX10. Dont you think it will afftect that?
The aircraft I'm talking about was an Air India 777 downloaded from one of the sites called fsdownloads. You can check if you have it.
I used to have My traffic X earlier but frame rate used to take a slight hit. Do you suggest any new AI programs that have come out recently? Or shoud I stick to My traffic X? Anyway what is the exact difference between a payware and a world of AI kinda stuff?

As for unchecking DX10, you do it within FSX, I believe that you go Options / Hardware - then there is a box to untick DX10. Personally, I don't think much people use DX10, I think FSX looks great on DX9 and gives you better performance and compatibility with everything else.
I haven't got FSX installed so I can't help you with that but with 3rd party addons, sometimes the people who make them haven't coded the panel.cfg correctly, so the best thing to do is try another panel in there with the appropriate aircraft, e.g. download a 777 panel from Avsim and see if it works within that model you downloaded.
The difference between the payware AI and the freeware AI, basically, if you're lazy, go for payware, but if you can be bothered to fiddle around installing freeware AI, it's always going to be better quality, model wise, and flight plans can be more updated and realistic to real world scheduling. Personally, I'd just download all the World of AI packages particular to the airports you fly to most. If you really wanna go payware, UT2 is the way to go in my opinoin. Please direct your complaints to the moon, they might care there. |

I guess I would have to download the SP1 before SP2 because this is a fresh install??
I wonder why on the Microsoft site, it is mentioned SP2 is only supported by Vista and XP! |

SP1 and SP2 are built in to Acceleration, I have it installed on W7 64bit so it works and is OK.

The DeLuxe Edition does NOT include Acceleration. Which makes the following statement irrelevant and confusing:
SP1 and SP2 are built in to Acceleration, I have it installed on W7 64bit so it works and is OK.
ABMUKH - W7 didn't exist when Microsoft last updated the site you are referring to, hence no mention of that OS. |

I don't think it includes SP1 either, just get both to be safe I suppose. Correct me if I'm wrong. Please direct your complaints to the moon, they might care there. |
