Can't install FSX in 8.1

So what's up with this I wonder? I have new computer with 8.1 and it installed FSX with no problems. After getting a bad download from the net, I had to restore my computer to original settings. No big deal.

I installed FS 2002, 2004 with some small problems but they work. Now I can't install FSX at all -- it starts the install program and then gives me a message "1628: failed to complete installation" with no options except the OK button.
Can anyone help -- I am willing to try suggestions.

Can I possibly get it online using my original product key?
Thanks in advance.
Mike

This is from Microsoft's forum...BUT.

I personally would use the free version of this.

Then reboot and try loading it again.

Let us know how you do.

Thanx but I'm not sure I understand that. I have nothing installed so why would I want an uninstaller?

One of the reasons that you can't load FSX is that from the previous version you had something remains.
It may be one folder or an entry in the registry.
If a reinstall of Windows was fast and without penalties (loosing information) I would tell you to start with a fresh computer.
This is the only way I can think of to "start fresh" within limits and hopefully get FSX installed.

Feel free to ask more anytime, I hope I am right.

OK -- I'm on it and I'll let you know how things turn out.

Sad to report the same notice from installshield.
I tried to uninstall the FSX X demo and it will not uninstall from my list of programs. I think it has interfered with my attempted FSX install which is basically the same name. Is that possible maybe?

I've been playing with flight sim for a long time but I must say I am not too literate about computers.

I did get the FSX X demo uninstalled but still no luck with Install FSX.

Did you try the link I gave you to free Revo.
You might have something left, or something in registry that is causing the problem.
