Today i recieved a, or shall i say two, 512 mb DDR RAM chips. When installing both at the same time, my screen became, just a screen with a box saying that the monitor was OK but it probably wasn't pluged into the computer. Well, i toyed around with the problem. First i put just one at a time in. WOOT! it works. ok, now i just to put in the other one. put it in, that stupid screen again. So then i put in the original RAM that i had before (256 mb DDR) and what-do-ya-know, it works. so then i begin to think its just a bad chip. so then i put in the RAM that i thought was bad by itself, and then with the old RAM. IT WORKS!!! Then i try putting it into different slots, and it comes out the slots are just fine. Finally comming to this award winning essay's end, I have come to the conclusion that is it possible that my baby (or computer, whatever you wanna call it) can't hold over a Gig of memory? Is this true? Only you guys can help me...and the manufacturer which is only a call away, but i would have to wait till tomarrow because it's Christmas.
BTW this is a good messege board, i dont even play this game, but theres a lot of intelligent peoples here. After visiting the topic about the graphics card, (which i still haven't figured out yet) i can really post my pc problems here. |

Could I ask what motherboard you are using? Roughly how old is it? Also, are there more that 2 slots for memory chips? If so, sometimes they have to be 'paired'. |

Well, first of all, sorry about calling it a game. I really don't know anything about the, SIM. I have just heard about it a couple times, and heard it was pretty cool. About the mobo, I dont really know. Im sorta a newb, and i don't know everything about my pc, and where to find it. I do know it's a Compaq Presario 6000, and i purchased it about a year and ¾ ago. It's really outa date. Rigth now im running XP on it. |

Are the two chips you purchased EXACTLY the same architecture? Same make, model, size, speed...etc? |

Well, in that case - I am guessing your motherboard cannot take 1024MB of memory. If you could find out the motherboard model - we could confirm this. |

well, i called the manufacturer and he said the model of my comp can hold that much, and he then told me to call compaq. so i did and i went through like 20 min of pressing keys on the phone for the automatic operater, and being on hold. and i kept getting this guy from Arabia, and i couldnt understand him. so yes, my computer can hold over a gig of memory |

Can you test the memory in another machine?
It might be a faulty chip as i was running 2x256 sticks and would only show as 470 or something but run them on there own and both showed 256
I had a couple of 128 sticks and with trial and error found the faulty stick
( HHMMM buying of Ebay )
Let us know |

Go to this site and you can enter your computers specs to see if your MBoard can take that much ram.

I think this is because something in your comp (possibly onboard grx or video card) is using shared graphics |

take out your graphics card before you put the memory stick into the slot then put the sticks in and then replace your video card a viola that is all there is to it |
