I voted yes for the simply reason we can't be the only intelligent life out there.

There was a programme on here in the UK a last year with Sam Neill in and they said you could take all the grains of sand in the world and paint 1 blue and that's us compared to the universe.
Very unlikely in my eyes |

It's kind of egotistical of us (humans) to think that we are the only intelligent beings in this huge universe.

Liono
Absolutely! And consider this. When you look up in the night sky and what you think you see are only countless stars also include very distant galaxies. A galaxy with its own billions of stars and planets. With all the incomprehensible vastness of the universe, there has to be other sentients beings. I believe! |

no disrespect intended My Pilot ...
but just H O W can you possibly know what god said or didn't say??
my neighbour too believes in a god but he swears that his god said something completely different.
believing is futile, a waste of time and energy. You either KNOW or you
DON'T KNOW.
I'm surprised, you have the courage to fly the heavies but you lack the courage to admit that you don't know something. Fear of "losing face"?
You are a young, intelligent man. Pay attention at school and when at home, read a good book and cultivate what is commonly referred to as thinking.
do NOT allow others to do your thinking for you.
finally, life is much simpler than most people would have you "believe".
simple because you have but ONE choice to make in life:
BELIEVE - or - THINK |

We are definitely not alone. If we were to be able to send an interstellar probe into space at a reasonable speed i.e. .8-.9 C, I would send it toward the Zeta Reticuli star system. I bet you'd be very surprised, and probably spooked as well. |

In 1960 a couple was abducted and examined by people not of this earth, during this encounter one of the abductees was able to communicate with these people and was shown a star map that depicted what the stars would look like from their( the aliens) perspective. The lady redrew the map under hypnosis. The map was analyzed by senior astronomers at Ohio State University. It was determined through computer analysis that the star cluster she saw was in fact the Zeta Reticuli system. It is interesting to note that there was a star in the map that was not discovered until the late 60s here. Its position in the afore mentioned map corresponds exactly to where it currently appears from our perspective. That is rather hard evidence in my book. It's no fluke. I don't beleive in co-incidences. I know this sounds far fetched, but based on the other information surrounding this event, I have no reason to doubt it. I beleive it completly. |

I conceive the possibility that there is some other form of life somewhere in the universe, but I cannot believe in those spooky stories of Rockwell's crash or some other flying saucers stories. |

I think that the "UFO"s are military aircraft. I also believe that there is other life in the universe. But I don't think that we have been visited. That is my opinion. |

now you are really confusing me, My Pilot,
you quote my post Fri Mar 25, 2:42 am and try to brush it and the profound truths contained in it off with one sentence which, though short and to the point, is a contradiction in itself - quote: "the Bible. Now I don't want to make this a religious post."
Now if you don't want to mike this a religious post - why mention the Bible in the first place? Why mention the fact that your family and you are with the Christian religion and God never said we were the only ones?
In my first post I merely responded to your rather provocative statement. If you find the time to read it again you might notice that only in the first two sentences do I use the word god.
What followed was an attempt to encourage you to THINK.
I can assure you I have no interest discussing religion of any kind. Unfortunately I seem to be afflicted by a disease which compels me to THINK most of my waking hours so there's not much time left for guesswork or wishful thinking.
Discussing the meaning of believe at large is by definition not a religious topic.
A person lacking patience will deem the following arduous and unimportant. I'm told however, that patience is a virtue.
Think, believe, guess, hope, trust, assume, calculate... the list goes on, are all different words with different meanings. It is important to understand the meaning of words and choose them with care. Think before you speak, think before you do...
A gullible or lazy person tends to believe without involving thought. It's easier that way. As a result only two factors have to be kept in mind, usually two opposites such as black and white,
good and bad, right and wrong, love and hate and dare I say... no, I better not.
A thinking person will discover that there are many nuances and shades between two opposing factors and a dull, sheeplike life will become one of scientific exploration and exitement.
You started this post with a poll on UFOs and before we knew it, little green men had taken over. How come? I wager that many participating in this post didn't know the real meaning of UFO until one of the members actually spelled it out in a rather amusing fashion.
Now then, armed with the knowledge what UFO really stands for, my claim that I experience daily sightings of UFOs will not surprise you. Planespotting comes with the hobby as you know.
When outside, I see them flying past frequently and on occasions when curiosity gets the better of me, I borrow my neighbour's binoculars and guess what?? The UFOs turn into IFOs ("miraculously"?).
After all of this then it appears that I do not believe in UFOs. Wrong.
Believe plays no part in this. Before using the binoculars I KNEW that I was looking at UFOs.
With the aid of the binoculars I KNEW what aircraft I was looking at.
Finally, whether you call yourself a Christian, a chief-executive, a dolphin or a coconut doesn't mean a thing.
What matters is Who you are.

No offence to the guest but HOW can YOU possibly know what God said or didn't say??
I believe in God but not in UFO's as they are characterized here on Earth. -If God is an alien..........then count me in. Having said that. I voted in the negative. |

If anyone here read the "General-Rules" posted above you are asked not to discuss religion among other things.
http://flyawaysimulation.com/forum/topic/838/general-posting-rules/
We have gone as far as possible with that part of "UFO" thoughts now lets continue without religious overtones or this thread will be deleted.
Thank you.

I'm undecided on this particular poll. I've thought about it, but to me, it seems too far-fetched to just believe in them. I'd have to see it to believe it. There's more I'd like to add, but, it's got a religious (somewhat) undertone to it.
Actually, I'll ask Radarman,
Radarman, would it be considered a "religious" post on my part if i were to say something about what happened at Fatima? Not like tie it into a religious argument, but use that as like an example for a question? |

mypilot-You don't have to remove anything, we saw it and it's done, no harm.
FEM-Fatima, sorry no.
I've seen forums start out as a "game forum", talk religion and then disappear.
It started as a "UFO" poll, quite harmless and enjoyable and then became contentious, if you want to continue as a "UFO" conversation please do or it will disappear as long as Flyaway lets me have this forum.
I will be more than happy to post links to religious forums for you to continue your discussions.
Thanks,
RM |
