We have many members your age that fly. Start at the beginning, take the lessons, you'll be surprised how fast you'll catch on.
Good luck.

I was 11 when I got FS2002. It took me about 18 months before I really figured it out.
Now I'm almost 15 and already a better pilot than my dad. ( He flew for Pan Am, ?-1991)

I was 10 or 11 when I started, I'm 13 now and I have mastered the sim. You can too. Just start out by taking the lessons and read the material, if you practice alot you will get better. Don't just hop in a 747 and expect to be able to fly it. Start out in the Cessna 172 and work your way up.
Good Luck.

I started on Flight Simulator when I was around 12 or 13 years old. Like the previous posters said, try starting out with Rod Machado's lessons, as they are really simple and easy to follow even at your age.

If you are finding Flight Simulator complicated because of the large amount of unfamilar instuments, try take an in-cockpit screenshot while up in the air during a lesson. Print it out, then study the instruments and eventually you should be able to figure out what they do and how they help the pilot. If you have trouble with this, 'hover' you mouse over the instrument and the name of it will be displayed. You can either find out about the particular intrument by looking in the PDF flight manuals written by Rod Machado, or posting a question here in the forums, anyone of us would be glad to help you.

Basic flying techniques can also be resonably hard to master, such as straight and level flight, and basic climbing/descending and turning. I can't stress enough that really the only way to conquer this difficulty is to practice, practice, practice. Take short flights in a Cessna 172 such as 10-15 minutes, possibly shorter if you like. Forget the more advanced techniques, all you really need to know about is throttle, using the yoke/joystick, trim, and basic instruments. You don't even really need to know about using flaps during your initial Flight Sim training.

Oh, one piece of advice - start off in a 172 and not a 747. 😉

Hope this helps a little (and not too 'hard to understand' for you).

I started back in 2000 when I was 27, when i was 13 I was a wizard at flying the AH64 Longbow Apache on the ZX Spectrum game "Tommohawk", thank god graphics have improved since then (1986) 😂

I guess im what you might call "an old fart" now Ill , but after playing flight sims for 20 years I'll probobly take my joystick to the old folks home with me! 😂

I was too old when I started with FS 1.0 and I'm even more too old now. 😳

You're at a good age to start with FS. Use the lessons and start with the easy stuff. When you are comfortable, go on to the more advanced things. Do it at your own pace. You'll have fun that way.

thanx for the advice. i didnt even know there was a flight sim until i went to a freinds house. at first i tried it and i chose the honk kong to s.f. flight cuz it wuz and still is my favorite trip i have taken(i went to h.k. for a week when i was 7 and im going again over spring break this year). anyway it included i think a full ils landing and it wuz at night. i just turned around at the gate and full throttled it. the flight lasted 12 hours and i was only there at my friends for 30 minutes after school.

Well I've been simming seriously for at least 3 months, ever since I had a real Flying Lesson as a present from our sons. And when I'm simming, I'm about 25, when I'm not, I'm 3 times that.

You're as young as you feel, and simming helps to keep me feeling young. And as I enjoyed my first lesson, a little bird tells me I will probably have another one as a Christmas pressie, how lucky can I get?

Incidentally, my avatar is of the Tiger Moth panel, the reflection, just visible, is myself, this was on my first real flying lesson, and within 1 minute after take off, I was in control, up to the landing, which requires a lot of agility, basically trying to see out both sides of the cockpit at the same time.

The TM I have for simming, is a very good simulation of the real item.
