Crash (Not the plane kind)

Fuzzy Guest

Hey all!

I'm running:
AMD XP3200+
120GB HD
1024MB Ram
Radeon 9200 (Drivers uptodate)
Windows XP

This is a weird one; I start a flight and I'm quite happily enjoying a sunset over the Grampian mountains and then......bang...I'm taken straight to desktop with FS gone. So I load up again and do another flight and surprise surprise it does it again. It seems to do this 80% of time I load up FS and quits after just around 5 to 10 minutes of flight time. There is no error message or anything. Any ideas??

Cheers in advance 😞

If it keeps happening in the same "scenery" then that's a know problem, but if it happens in different parts of the world see if one of these can help you.
If not come back and we'll try again. 👍

I have a similar problem RadarMan. But the exception being that sometimes when I load FS and also while i'm flying it will crash to a blue screen. I have tried those methods on the other thread and my performance has increased 5x!! But it crashed to a blue screen this morning, here are my specs:

AMD AthlonXP 2800+
512MB RAM
GeForce FX5200 (running on 53.04 drivers)
Windows ME
C-Media onboard sound card 32bit

Could it be something to do with my video card settings?

Thanks. 🙂

Andrenaa,
The last video card that I had would crash Windows (BSOD), your getting the Blue Screen Of Death.
That's when Windows crashes.
I found that if I added an aircraft that wasn't GMAX it would crash. Now with my new card I load whatever I want and I haven't crashed yet.
I hope this is of some help, it may just be your drivers if its a new occurrence, you can go back to older ones if they worked better.
If you are "pushing" your Video card by maxing out the settings try cutting them by 50% and see what that does.

By the way sound cards can cause troubles also if the drivers have been changed recently.

Nice seeing you back again. 👍

😀 Yes welcome back
You could try the latest drivers from Nvidia 56.64 now for Win ME

I'm not real sure about all these drivers...I uninstalled the 5656 driver for G-Force and installed the 5672 one...And it is not as good I think....At times it seems better,,and just when I'm convinced it is it shows me it's not...I don't know........ Idea

Thanks for your kind comments guys! Surprised 😀 I have been very busy. I have narrowed the problem down to the Nice (France) area. When I did a flight to Liverpool and climbed over 25,000 it would crash to desktop. So far I have not had another blue screen as I have reinstalled - all is well........so far. 🙄

TomtheTank, I tried your suggestion of the 56.64 drivers but that worsened the problem and would hang badly when ever I pressed 'alt' to display the menu bar. It's ok at the moment so I won't touch a thing. 🙂

Harleyman, try backtracking and use the 53.04's, they are better. Surprised

Thanks but I got the prob fixed thanks to a link you posted.....I am running WP and still have the 5672 driver installed....Seems I left my antivirus up while downloading the driver the first time....Opppppssss

I also went into my system and told windows to use best display possible,,instead of where it was set.........

Now on my last flight at ground level I was getting 38 - 42 FPS,,and at altitude(15 - 50) I was getting a solid 60 - 63 with slider set to 63.....

Works and looks great now......

YUP....I'm a happy flyer now......LOL
