3 Problems

1.- I installed Project AI hoping to get better traffic. I get more traffic, but I constantly get two or three planes flying in formation and traffic alerts.
Is this normal?
2.- I did a short flight from Zurich to Geneva, and whilst on app. to Geneva the ATC said decend to 8600, and as soon as I got to 8600 it would ask to go to 9200 and then 8600 and on and on. Did the controller lost it?
3.- Most of the times FS9 works smoothly, I can change views quickly and my framerate(locked at 23fps) works perfectly. However, sometimes my computer becomes sluggish and the hard drive keeps coming on making my game slow as hell. What can I do? I know I'm not overheating, which could be causing the problem and I exceed by far FS9 sys.reqs.
I have FS configured for max. resolution but even if I move everything to low res I still have the same problem sometimes.
Also sometimes it takes time for the color to appear on some add-on aircraft and at first they are just grey. Could some poorly made aircraft be causing problem?(I really don't think so but it's better to mention it)

Help Umm...

At times I too get shuffled from one altitude to another...Not much though...Can get a little hairy,,especially when hand flying,,setting trim is not my speciality...LOL

What do you mean your hard drive???? Do you mean your CDR drive???And if so what speed does it opperate at...Al;so what install do you have???

Some of my add on also appear gray at first..Taking a moment to show their colors....And it is not my puter...I run at a solid 38 - 63 FPS always....It must be the addons..........

No help I know...

What is your OS info?????

I run on a Celeron processor at 2.4ghz with 512 ram and 64mb video.

He answered some of your questions, the problem with the h/d is that you either don't defrag it once a week, or it is loaded with programs making it slow and continually searching or it is getting to the stage where it is grinding and needs to be replaced.
With a 64mb video card you are going to get the aircraft gray before the "colors" get added, with a better card and drivers it shouldn't happen. I had it continually with my old 64mb, now with a 128mb card it's rare.
Nice machine see if you can add another 512mb ram while it's cheap (the prices are starting to rise again) you'll see the difference in graphic intensive games such as this Sim.

😀 If you use real weather, the altitute thing could be that you are not resetting the altimeter.

Not sure whats happening with the formation stuff 😕 Is it any type of aircraft?

Radar is right about the defrag(something we all forget from time to time)

Umm... More Ram would be nice, but a better graphics card would see more improvement in fs and any other games in general

For the fomation stuff try reloading the Ai flights (they will overwrite the old)

At least 90% of your problems go to the video. I'm thinking you're running with the video that's ON the Mobo, or you have a very old vid board. You're gonna have to bite the bullet and get a newer vid board or you'll NEVER get good video performance. Depending on circumstances the FX (upper end) boards would be OK. Better would be the gForce 5900 board but it costs a bit. You don't say what op system you're running but 512 meg don't really cut it anymore.

Per the min specs which are on the box, or ANY game box; those specs are assuming that you've got ALL sliders down to the min and have no special demands on the video process at all.

It may be sad to say, but modern games companies do a little bit of hocus-pocus with the min specs to run their games. The real truth is that modern games are really designed to run on the top end systems which are available at the time of release. It depends on what you're willing to put up with; if you can stand less than good to excellent video then you can get by with less. Bear in mind that that new game which is just around the corner will most likely put you further back and may just not run at all. 😀

So..I defragmented my HD and everything is now running smoothly.
I still get 3 737's flying in formation and landing one after another, but I won't complain.
I should get Ultimate Traffic and that should make me happy.

What would you say is better, to upgrade my ram or my video memory?
I can answer that, both! 🙄

Thanks to you all

coolsan,
Yes, I would say both as you have, the video card comes before the ram. Search the "net" for a good price once you decide on the card you want.

Very happy to hear that it's running smoothly now.

Video card first, I'd say! But please, stay away from the 5200 card. It's a dog, in many people's estimation. If you can swing it get the 5900 which is a little notch below the best available right now but is very nice and will enhance your experience greatly for not a whole lot of moola. Then go for another 512 meg mem after your pocket has cooled down from the video. 😀
