The military has retired all of its f-14's it made its last flight today and that was the end.
I have to say that the f-14 was one of my favorite fighter aircraft and it was sad to hear it was going.

Can you be more specific? Does it include the Navy? Maybe you've got a link to an article we could read...?

Wow, it didn't occur to me that Top Gun was made in 1986. Scary to go back that long, 20 years now!
Top Gun! Very good movie. I didn't realize that it was that old. I was talking to SamIntel one time about the movie and i wondered why they didn't use the F/A-18s because they are much more maneuverable.
Atreyu, I believe those are F-18s in your pics. One distinguishing characteristic is that the F-14 has their engines farther apart. I'm sure the Second pic is an F-18

Thanks for the link Flyboy,
...has flown into the danger zone for the last time... ...that the last F-14 combat mission was completed Feb.8...
If this can be taken literally, then there is a chance the F-14s will be around for a little while longer - training purposes perhaps... or a sequel to 'Top Gun...?
Just found an interesting discrepancy here
The last combat sortie by an F-14 was completed on February 15, 2006. The plane was part of VF-31, and was piloted by Capt. William G. Sizemore II.

If you're interested in more detailed facts about the 'Tomcat', here's a good starting point http://www.faqs.org/docs/air/avtomcat.html
Top Gun is a terrible film lol
