hey all,

ive got some trouble with my B767-400 i cant seem to keep a consistant climb speed. and every time i get to about 30,000 to 34,000 FT. my altitude auto pilot that keeps me at a consistant climd heading or keep me to gain oh say....100 to 500 per minute or something like that but can someone give me some tips on keeping a good airspeed controll until i get to cruising because once i get to cruising ALT. I am fine but it is just getting there.

so if anyone can give me some tips that would be great

All planes will start bleeding speed at oh say 28k due to lack of air, you need to keep reducing your climb rate in order to maintain air speed. Is there an auto setting for that...I don't think so Jar Jar, I just try to keep it at 220-230 KIAS until I am at altitude. Each plane will be a little different based on amount of thrust.

Good luck.

I had a simular situation when I changed the realism settings. I would climb to 30,000 or so in a 747 or 777 and the air craft would almost dive in auto pilot. I read a posting here on Fly Away and cahnged my settings back to default for realism. Either I wasn't ready for realism or That is a fault with the SIM?

I hope this helps.

yeah the 777 will stall at a steady climb past FL280 best to put her at 1000 fpm at FL260 and then 500 @ FL 300. That's what I found.

That is exactly what happens when I fly that too. Also, the 747 is very sluggish on my system.
i gb ram
250 gb hard drive
2.6 ghz p 4
ati pro 800 256 mb ddr3 ram
my should handle about anything smoothly but for some reason some air craft are not cooperating.

It seems to me that aircraft change drastically depending on the download model. I have downloaded the Meljet's 777's and can cruise to 35000 feet at around 2000fpm, purely because the engines are so damn powerful (over 100000lbs from each engine - the most powerful in the world) so it seems fairly hard to stall a 777 unless you are doing above 2000fpm, but others have found differently Dont Know

It depends on weight mainly, but if you make sure you decrease your ascent rate like mrtazzy suggested, I'm sure it will be fine 😉

I have very few downloadded additional aircraft. Every once in awhile I uninstall because I do have addon aircraft. It seems that either FS9 gets corrupt because of addons or there are glitches in the A1 aircraft that don't like the addons???? I am not sure why the problem exsists but when I uninstall and reinstall the problems with flight dynamics goes away.

thanks you guy but can anyone tell me a good climb speed for this i got the d/load from project open-sky. but i just need some tips on keeping a good airspeed. i was just at 38,00 FT. when my aircraft stalled. and i only have this trouble with the 767 and 757 so would about 350 to 400 FPS be good. or what?

also one more thing does anyone think I should have some flps or not?

Definately no flaps at that altitude and speed. You may try some elivator trim to keep the nose down?

good i never thought so anyway thanks for your help

When you take off, make the climb around 2500fpm to 3000 fpm to around 10000 feet. If the speed starts to bleed off due to high angle of attack, then lower the climb speed by 500 feet or so and see how that goes. If you are still losing speed at higher altitudes, then lower the VSI reading and so on. Aim for a speed around 240 KIAS as a climbing speed 😉

378 KIAS at FL380....and your aircraft isn't violently shaking with screaming passengers ❓ Umm...

not yet i got it lowered some its about 345 now but i was getting some serious fibration in my joystick it scared me! Fear

😂

At around FL380, KIAS is usually at around 245 which is (very roughly speaking) close to Mach .82 - 345KIAS is well over the speed of sound...

If you're flying a POSKY, have a look at your Fuel and Payload. Be prepared for a surprise 😳 😀

ya i found out a few months ago -- the hard way lol, that heavies (among other aircraft too) will start to lose speed an alarming pace once you reach about FL300.

But it's an easy fix.. just adjust your VS as you climb.. i usually have it at 2500 fpm through 15,000 ft , then 2000 fpm thru 25,000 ft, and then i level it between 1000 fpm and 700 fpm past FL280. sometimes i'll dip as low as 500 or 400 fpm.. but most of the time i dont need to (it depends on weight, payload, etc..)

in the real world, heavies traveling higher than FL320 normally take a lot longer to reach cruise altitude than passengers realize... and this is due to the lack of air. Those 747s and A340s at FL400 normally have VS set as low as 400 or 300 fpm once they reach FL360. ...You can imagine how slow the dial on the altimeter is moving at that point! lol
