Re-formatting

Today I re-formatted my laptop and completely re-installed windows. Everything went OK but now when I start up it automatically goes into safe mode without even asking me if thats what I want to do.

I've never re-formatted before so does anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks 😉

Does it give you any error or message saying why it booted into safemode?

go to Start/Run/msconfig/BOOT.INI tab

make sure there is no tick in the 'Safeboot' box

Thanks for the reply Michael_H 😉

I get no error message message and I cant find the tab you suggested....i'm running Windows 98SE if that helps.

I re-started in "diagnostic start-up" mode and selected to start-up in normal when prompted but that didn't change anything, I still only get only 16 colours?? I used to run in 32-bit...I think, but I no longer have the option to run in this mode??

Thanks 😉

If you're in safe mode each corner of the screen displays "SAFE MODE".

If you cannot see this I would suggest that it is just windows displaying in its default mode as you have not installed your graphics card drivers yet.

Why on earth are you using Windows 98SE? 🙂

Well this my laptop.....not my PC, which is a load of Censored anyway 😉

It doesn't display safe in the top corner so you could be right. Before I re-insatlled Windows, my card displayed 256 colours fine though.

Do you know where I can download the latest drivers.

Under where it would usually say graphics card it says.... ➡

Standard PCI graphics adaptor

Thanks 😉
