this is just a quick poll to see how many of us actually use A/P to land or if we just manually land the plane.

I usually manually land the plane because I think its more fun 😀

I voted for manually - all my landings have been manual as of late.

Manual here, autoland takes all the fun and accomplishment out of it.

Since I don't have any aircraft with Auto land capability, manual landings. 🙂

Manual ofcourse 🙄 if you choose autoland/auto whatever, then you rely on computers/electronics etc, if they screw up then your ........ shall we say up/down the river without a paddle 🙄 , in the sim it's just trial and error, you can restart/start, enjoy your flights. 😉

I prefer landing the plane manually. Aside from the fun part, it's also more challenging. The way I see it, the autopilot's main purpose is to reduce the flight crew's workload inside the cockpit. It's only an aid and should never be used as a substitute for good piloting skills. Despite the availability of sophisticated equipment, in my humble opinion, the best instrument in any aircraft is a safe, knowledgeable, well-trained pilot.

If you're starting to think landing on a long runway is boring, try a carrier night landing and aim for a perfect "OK 3" Trap! It's the ultimate high.

I agree with brownbox... Landing a plane manually is more fun!

Smooth touchdowns on a runway or scoring a perfect No. 3 wire carrier trap without the assistance of an autopilot or ACLS (in the F-1😎 gives you this sense of achievement no other experience could match. Takeoffs are boring unless you're doing a catshot in an F-14 Tomcat with full-afterburner. Flying an airplane is just the second best thrill. Landing is the first! Dogfights are another story.

the only time i've ever used autopilot for approach/landing is when i was trying out the trident.good stuff there. i sometimes use approach hold when i'm feeling lazy but that's only every 10 flights maybe. you have to line up well anyway to use it Wink

I've been practicing nothing but landings recently in to various airports and always with the AP engaged until just before I touch down. This is because I've been really getting to grips with my AP and its quirks etc. Now I'm more confident I disengage the AP from a bit further out each time. Its much more rewarding to land it manually.

Both. I use approach hold but flare and touch down manually.
