My computer died...dead...
The only error message I got was "Pn4 Failed" with PCI 1-4 error messages. It only popped up once, now it won't get past the power-supply spinning up and the monitor getting a signal.
I think it's the motherboard?
Previously the motherboard mounted ethernet port failed, so I had to add a new one in a PCI slot, and it has a new graphics card in a PCI slot.
The computer was working perfectly, then the screen froze up, the mouse wouldn't even move. ctrl-alt-del wouldn't do anything. I restarted the computer three times and it turned on on the third time, worked fine for about a day, then froze up again. Now I've tried to restart it about 10 times, on the fourth or fifth time I got the "Pn4 Failed". Every other time it won't turn on past the green light coming on, the GForce 5500 screen popping up on the monitor for a second, then it goes blank(not no input, just blank), and the Power Supply fan coming on. I thought it was odd that it said that there were 4 PCI ports...my Dell motherboard only has 3.
The modem says that there is computer activity when I turn the computer on, the optical-mouse lights up, and my iPod will charge from the USB port, and the monitor doesn't say, "No External Input" all of which come from the Mother Board, except the modem and monitor get their info from the PCI mounted board.
Where should I start?
Thanks!

Thanks for the links! I am leaving work in about fifteen minutes...If I'm posting tonight, you'll know if it worked!
I am going to format my laptop tonight and see if I can't get it working again...I guess that's what I get when I procastinate...two broke computers.

😂 Good luck see you later.
I tried as many things from that website as I could remember(no internet at home) and none seemed to do ANYTHING at all...
Finally I pulled all three PCI cards out(Modem, Ethernet, Video) and unplugged everything but the power cord, then after enough time had ellapsed for a boot, I plugged the video card in. Voila, the computer had booted in safe-mode. So I plugged in the mouse/keyboard/and everything else except the PCI cards.
Voila, booted fine. Plugged in the Video card, booted, ethernet, booted, modem...blammo, dead again. Removed the modem, booted.
So now my computer doesn't have a modem, just a hole in the back where I'm probably going to to have to install a sound card. 🙄
I'm going to try new speakers first, but I'm pretty sure this MotherBoard is on her last legs...
It's working for now, see what you have to do to get it fixed.
Good luck again.
Sounds like the modem is what has died, try putting one of the other cards that it works ok with in the slot the modem was in, if it still boots fine it is the modem rather than the mobo
