Waypoints

I just have a question about waypoints here.

When I played FS9 I understood what the way points are etc, but I then stopped playing FS for a year becuase I had some important things and exams to do. I have pretty much now forgot about them. Why do I need to use them? Where do I use them? Where do I put them? I know how to put them on, it's on the flight plan page but I just don't really understand in any more.

An electronic Waypoint is nothing more than a point along your route of flight. This point can be a VOR, NDB or intersection. You can go GPS direct without any waypoints but even VFR, waypoints help pilots keep track of their progress and fuel state by using a navigation log. On an IFR flight plan, waypoints would be VOR's and intersections and sometimes NDB's. Even when using the GPS on a IFR, waypoints help define your route of flight so ATC can better track and anticipate your position. Smile
