In a real 737-400 you do not normaly use 40 degree flaps. You only use 40 in an emergency. Most people put flaps at 40 but that is acctually not realistic, unless of course you call it an "emergency".

I assumed that Flaps 40 was only used on very short runways. Ones perhaps they wouldnt normally land on, i.e. an emergency diversion.
If that is what your implying.
The flight notes for the model, do correctly state the correct usage of Flap.
So if one used that first, they would be flying as "realistically" as possible.
