You're saying that it climbs approx. 90 degrees straight up then heads approx. 90 degrees down to the ground? Try recalibrating your controller and adjusting the elevator trim in-flight.

I usually have that problem when I'm in a stall or recovering from a stall. What works for me is making sure that auto pilot is off and I muscle the aircraft back into submission. But be sure not to use overbearing stick throws, just subtle enough to get the aircraft to react in a positive manner. At least that's what works for me and my vintage heavy bombers...
