Acceleration on Vista

Hi all,

Is it worth installing Vista again to get the advantages that acceleration adds to the software with DX10?

I have been running Linux for the last few months but I have a dual boot with xp to play FS but I don't currenly have an install of Vista to try it out on.

Thanks

I don't know. But I would like to see that last bit of eye candy.

While I'm waiting for FSX SP2, I'm sitting here preparing to install Vista basic UPGRADE to Xp SP2 (which runs FSX well). Hoping that FSX and my other applications survive!

At least for me, knowing there is a little bit of capability I'm missing in FSX is an eater 😕

Hello fellow simmers,
Been running Vista for several months - all has been well with FSX and SP1.
Installed Acceleration two weeks ago - and it's pretty good - BUT, remember, DX10 Preview is JUST that...................a preview..........
I can see some increase in "eye-candy", BUT, at this point, I do have some issues in DX10 mode - especially with my nVidia drivers demonstrating shimmers. FPS's increased about an average of 6 fps.

IMO, somewhere down the road, DX10 will be 100% - and FSX SP2/Acceleration will have patches and ALL will be well???

So are you using;

ForceWare Release 163 WHQL
Version: 163.75
Release Date: November 6, 2007
Operating System: Windows Vista 32-bit
Language: U.S. English
File Size: 30.5 MB

Can you show us a jpg of these "shimmers"?

This might be an excuse for me to keep Xp to Vista upgrade in the box!

Hello oldsamer,
YES, those are the correct drivers that I am using.................for my 8800 GTS 640 meg............................
I've tried everything know and searched to change the settings in nTune to no avail...............................
The shimmering behavior is absent IF I revert to/turn off DX10 Preview in the slider config.

I can send .jpgs tonight - BUT, tell me how to do it..............I've never sent an attached file to our forum before...........NOW is the time I learn how.

Thanks for your interest - I will also list my current nVidia control panel setup............

Thanks so much,

Thanks for that. I have the 8500 so I assume I would get a similar problem.

There is a tutorial for screenshots at https://forum.flyawaysimulation.com/forum/topic/11288/guide-to-upload-our-pics/

Well, let's see IF I can post with pics - bear with me.................

The shimmers, which of course the pics will NOT show the movement I get in FSX are ONLY present - 1. With DX10 activated 2. ONLY on runways/tarmacs, etc - I also get minimal shimmers on the wings of aircraft in "outside view"...........................
From all of the threads and talking with Nvidia, its a graphics driver issue..........BASICALLY, I am told that DX10 is STILL in its infancy and will get better in the future. OK

I'm running an 8800GTS 640 meg, overclocked..............

Now, let's try the pic attachment???

Thanks folks,
cthiggin
