A friend of mine is having trouble getting FSX to run properly. Here is the problem he is having.

First time he ran FSX he got the BSOD for a microsecond and then a black screen. He made out the text,"BAD_POOL_HEADER". Probably tried in excess of ten times with the previous described results but a few times just a black screen. He only experience the problem in an aircraft on the ground during takeoff, sometimes at rotation, sometimes when the throttle is advanced to full. If he starts with the microlight, it's in the air when the flight begins. It flies perfectly and all controls work as they should. He can do a low flyby but if the wheels touch the ground, then the problem occurs either as the throttle is advanced to full or if you try to take off with reduced power it occurs at rotation. He's tried:

Eliminated Admin processes* in WTM
Reducing all SIM settings to Low
Shutting down anti-virus
Not accessing the internet
Downloaded Video & Audio drivers
Turned on Indexing service
Turned off indexing service
Googled Bad Pool Header, tried suggestions
(*not explorer.exe, taskmgr.exe)

I would start by making sure the video drivers are current as well as any XP updates.

Edit: doh, I noticed you already tried the graphics drivers. Also make sure FSX SP1 is installed.
