Building my first...

hey guys im finally going to start building a computer and i just need some ideas on whats new and whats hot! i dont realy have a budget yet and i can get a lot of stuff cheap through my brother how has several connections in the computer world...

any ideas are much appreciated...

nvidia 8800 ultra (or the nvidia 9000 series)

Windows XP (i would stay away from vista)

dual core chip...

at least 2 gig ram

raid hd

8800 nvidia as suggested above.

I have close to that in mine, and I built it myself.

1300w powersupply

blueray dvd drive and burner

liquid cooling

intel quad with 2.66 ghz

also away from building my computer i though about getting one from AlienWare...

also how can i find if I have a 64 or 32 bit operating system...(I am not technologically gifted)

Disagree re staying away from Vista, it's perfectly stable now, expecially since service pack one

If he goes for XP, he'll end up being left behind as support gradually fades out for it (mainstream supports ends in April next year) and new versions of directx are released

If you don't know whether your OS is 32- or 64-bit, it is probably 32 bit. But presumably you can get whatever version you can afford if you're building a new computer.

If you want 4gb of ram you must have a 64 bit operating system.
