Please help! I am about to reformat my HD because my monitor goes black and sits for a couple of seconds when I start SIM and after I close SIM; when I log on and log off the computer.
I am using Radeon video card and in the past, I was advised to download a new update (device driver) from ATI.
I downloaded and installed the drivers and that’s when the problem started. I uninstalled and deleted the entire folder in c:\program file and removed all files or entries from the registry. But unfortunately the problem still exists...I was foolish not to have a backup device until today so OH well I am going to lose it all I don't have $$ at this moment.
I don't know why doing a clean install of Windows is going to cost you $ or how it will help.
If it were me before I'd reinstall I'd try to completely clean out the drivers and load older ones that are more compatible with that card.
Am I advising you to do this...nope, but that's what I would do if the "blackouts" bothered me.
Use a driver cleaner, it's an "at your own risk type" thing but works quite well if you follow the directions carefully.

Use Regvac in the NOVICE mode only, use it full out and kiss your registry goodbye if your not a pro, and I'm not.

Then load new drivers, as old as you can find, you should have a disk that came with the card.
If the computer still blinks when you come out of the sim and never any other time it could be overheating also, have you cleaned out the case recently or added a fan in the rear.
Is this the post you are referring to?

It is similar to https://forum.flyawaysimulation.com/forum/topic/3387/blinking-cursor/ but right now, I sometimes have to restart my computer. I will try to use drivercleaner and see the results. I did uninstalled the new drivers and reinstalled the old drivers that came with the card I even cleaned my registry but still have problems. My computer is located in a very cool area and I turn it off when not in use.
My biggest concern is loosing other data that I have on the HD.
Thank you for a quick reply. I will let you know the results.
Don't you have a CD burner that you can use, or even an external h/d or thumb (USB) drive.
Good luck and let us know how you do.
oooooops I forgot about cd burner , I have one but I guess I am getting old.
Thank you RadarMan.
