FSX slowing Down

I have been playing fsx for a couple years but a couple of months ago fsx started slowing down it skips and jumps and then returns to a some what normal FPS. I have a couple payware aircraft and thats about it when it comes to addons. Any Ideas suggestions?

The first thing I would do is remove the case cover and clean the dust out of the fans, it could be overheating.
Then see how it works, if it's still "slows' do a defrag and see if that straightens it out.
