atc tells me wrong altitide

Hi
Can anyone tell me why ATC tells me I'm at 5900 ft and to expedite my descent to 4000 ft (for eg), when all my guages are telling me I'm already there?, My instrumentation is all set right as I crash at 0, so ATC isn't calibrated to me somehow? any clues

You need to set your altimeter to local barometric pressure and not to 0 for groun level.
