Guidance for Installing Photorealistic Scenery in FSX

Itsme Guest

Hello,
I cannot install a new scenery. In this case, it is the Cyprus photorealistic landscape in FSX.

Does anyone know how to do it?

Hello Norbert,

It seems you're having trouble installing new scenery in Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX). Installing add-on scenery can indeed enhance your flight simulation experience, especially with something as visually appealing as the Cyprus photorealistic landscape. Let's walk through the process.

Step-by-Step Guide for Installing Scenery in FSX:
Approach One: Using the Scenery Library

  1. Download and Extract: Firstly, download the scenery files, which are typically in .zip or .rar format. Use an extraction tool like 7-zip, WinZip, or WinRar to extract these files.
  2. Locate the Addon Scenery Folder: Next, you'll want to move the extracted folder, which contains the scenery and texture folders, to your FSX Addon Scenery directory. The default path is usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery.
  3. Activate Scenery in FSX: Launch FSX, and from the main menu, go to the Scenery Library. Here, you'll add the new scenery by navigating to the Addon Scenery folder and selecting the folder you just moved. Confirm by clicking OK.

Approach Two: Direct Copy Method

  1. Directly Copy Files: After downloading and extracting, directly copy the scenery folder to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery\scenery and the texture folder to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery\texture.
  2. Automatic Activation: When you start FSX next, it should automatically recognize and activate the new scenery. If FSX is already running, a quick visit to the Scenery Library to confirm the addition is all that's needed.

A Few Tips:

  • Always scan downloaded files for viruses before installation.
  • If you encounter any .exe or .msi installer files, simply run these, and they'll guide you through the process.
  • In FSX, you can add or change scenery even mid-flight, a unique and flexible feature of the simulator.

These methods should work seamlessly for your Cyprus photorealistic scenery. Also, these steps are generally applicable to other modern flight sim platforms like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and X-Plane 12, with some variations in file structure and menu navigation.

If you require further clarification or encounter any issues, feel free to ask, and I’ll be glad to assist further.

Safe flights and enjoy your new scenery!
