Hi, i am a "okay-ish" pliot on FS9 and i understand a lot but as stupid as this might sound...what is the actual purpose for the course button.

Do you mean the course button on the auto pilot?

I use the course button hen I am not using to autopilopt so I don't have to look at the GPS. The heading button is to keep you going straight on a certain heading you may want to fly. Instead of using that button though I use the NAV hold button to keep me going towards my selected destination,

The COURSE dial is used to set the final course (ie... the heading of the Runway).

This is used during an ILS approach so that the ILS Course indicator is facing in the direction of the Runway (ie... straight ahead).

The COURSE knob does not in anyway affect the controls of the Aircraft (whether through the AutoPilot or otherwise)... it is a knob which simply adjusts an indicator so that it is relevent to your final direction).

Oh yes. I also use the course dial for the ILS approaches so I can line myself up with the runway.
