Suddenly FS does not want to record the flights on the excuse that logbook  (what a strange name) does not exist and I have to recreate it. I see nothing in "Content" or FAQ or Glossary about the logbook, much less about how to recreate.
Else I am told to create one in the logbook dialogue. Yet in the "Alt"+Options+Logbook it is right there although it stopped recording anything since yesterday morning.
How do I re-link this loogbook with normal operations?
Thanks,
Pierre
Hey, just came back up after I had paid this visit through Alt+Options+Logbook.
I suspect it felt lonely and wanted that I pay it a visit!
I am having the same problem, it only works if I manually click into my logbook at the end of the flight.
Otherwise when I shut down fs2004 it errors and records nothing 😞
same thing with me
I've found that if you manually go to the logbook and make any changes the book will no longer work.
See if either one of these helps.
Most likely.

I've had that problem before. And here's the solution.
Go to your FS9 and open it with the Notepad. Look for LOG_FILE: There will be some weird stuff there. Erase all that and leave it blank. Don't erase LOG_FILE.
Start up Flight Simulator 2004 and when you close it you will see the logbook working as it should be. If you then go to FS9 you will see that after LOG_FILE says logbook. (LOG_FILE:logbook)
Hope this helps you.
Bom Dia Agus,
Since I bought a new PC and the logbook works fine on this new installation I had not pursued the matter until today.
However, I could not find any LOG_FILE anywhere on the hard disk, nor could I find this string after opening FS9.exe with Notepad. I would refrain from changing anything on an hexa file anyway. Could not find this LOG_File on any of the two PCs either, either as a file or a string within fs9.exe ❓ ❓ ❓
Bom Dia, Pierre. Tudo bem?
I was looking for the LOG_FILE in the FS9.CFG file and I found it under the International part. This LOG_FILE should be located on the FS9.CFG file and opened with the notepad. It isn't FS9.exe, as you said in your post. Maybe that was the reason that you didn't find it.
Here's the International part on my FS9 file:
[INTERNATIONAL]
ASLAT=2
ASLON=1
MEASURE=0
[MISC]
COM_RATE=7
LOG_TIME=1
FOREIGN_TRANSLATOR=0
LOG_FILE=logbook
As you can see, the LOG_FILE is in the last line.
If you can't find it, let me know and I'll still help you.
Boa tarde, Todo Bem,
I will try this tomorrow
Obrigado,
Pierre
Ok. Tell me how it goes.
Boa noite
Not been at it for a while. Searched the FS9.cfg and found several copies, but all LOG_FILE references, in [MISC] on my machine, were to a garbled script starting all the time by #_#R# etc. No need to say that a search on this string revealed no file on the disk. Probably the installation of FS9 was corrupt. Water under the bridge by now since I have installed on a new better machine and I have no problem.
Obrigado for the help anyway, I know now where the cfg is located and what it contains.
Pierre
Well, I don't know what to tell you, PierreL. Maybe you can try to reinstall the simulator. That would fix the logbook too.
Bom Dia Agus,
I have reinstalled on the new machine (3.2MHZ, 1GB RAM and NVIDIA GeF 6600) all is well, I just lost the previous hours.
Saw yr Lisbon scenery, nice shots where did you get the scenery?
Obrigado,
Pierre
PS I am not Portuguese either but I fly there monthly..
Boa Tarde, PierreL,
You have a nice machine. It's better than mine, I think. Yeah, it's much better. Well, it's not my computer....it's my dad's. One day, I will have my own computer and it will be great! I hope so....
Anyway, RadarMan told me about a new Lisbon Scenary and he gave me the link to download it. I'm too lazy to look for that link right now, but I found on Avsim the filename: plpv3.zip
That's the scenary I'm using. It's really cool. I also downloaded a Rio de Janeiro scenary, which is excelent. If you want the filename, I can look for it.
Well, I'm not Portuguese either. I'm Argentinian, but I'm living in Portugal.
I fly to Portugal sometimes. Tomorrow I'll do a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Lisbon...
Thought I'd help.

I had problems with the auto logging feature when I created a second file such as MY FLIGHT LOG. It wrote the save file after the first flight the all logging stopped writing save files. I sent a problem report to Microsoft on this in Apr 2004. Following is their reply:
Let me take this opportunity to address this issue.
First of all I would like to inform you that the Logbook entry is made only for the first time, after which the entries need to be made manually. We have been able to replicate this issue from our end and have also forwarded this to our Management Team for review.
Hopefully this issue should be resolved in the next version of the game. In the meantime you can enter the logbook readings manually.
To do so please follow the steps as mentioned below:
1. Start a flight.
2. Click on ALT button to get the game menu
3. Click on Options and Logbook
4. Click on Add Entry and then enter the readings
However if you are not encountering the prompt to enter the readings while exiting then ensure that you meet the following requirements:
1. Only flights, which take more than 6 minutes of flying, throw this prompt.
2. Ensure that the option `Prompt on Exit' is check marked. To do so click on Settings and then the General button
Furthermore, I have forwarded the issue related to the logbook to the Product team. Thank you for bringing this issue to our notice. We are always keen to have views and comments from our customers. It's a vitally important way of improving and developing our products and services.
