I was wondering what the worlds biggest plane is. I think that it is that solviet cargo plane with 6 engines, but I'm not sure.
Its tha an225 but I think the a380 is bigger I'm bot sure
The A380 might be bigger, but don't really like Airbus, so I'll go with the AN225. Thanks for your help. 😀
😳 The russians take the cake
anton 225 is huge
check out the comparrison
A380-800: Wing span 79.8m (261ft 10in), length 73m (239ft 6in). Height 24,1 m (79ft 1in)
The 84 metre (275.6 ft) long An225 has a wingspan of 88.4 metres (290 ft),

On what particular knowledge and experience, either as a pilot, a passenger, an aerodynamics/electronics/construction engineer, or all of same, do you base this broadly sweeping and rather outspoken statement?
Be well!

SPRUCE GOOSE its the bigger 😀
What is the problem with airbus sr?
It is the Spruce Goose. I watched a program on the History Chanel the other day about it. They used to have it down in the white dome by the Queen Mary but they moved it up to Washington State because they thought it would attract more tourists. The Spruce Goose had 8 engines! And it only flew once.
I don't mind the Airbus but I do prefer Boeing.
I agree Airbus are beautiful aircraft but I have not realy got to now them so I still prefer the good old (and new) boeing 737 and 747
Sorry, I should have said I dislike airbus. I don't like them because everything is done by a computer, it's to automated, and I'm not a big fan of the side stick. I'm a boeing guy.
Airbus introduced the "glass cockpit"...Boeing followed......they will again with the side stick 🙄
Progress 👍

Yes, that's true.
Anyone seen the movie The Aviator, with Howard Hues? It's really good, Hues desinged the Sproose Goose. You see him flying it in the movie.
Yes, I saw that movie. It was interesting, but there were some boring scenes. The last part of the movei was the best, I think. That aircraft is huge!
Yea, I agree, some of the senes were boring. My favorite seens were when he broke the speed record, and when he flew the Goose. 😎
Here is the Goose in all it's glory!.

Yes, the one when he broke the speed record was great too. He was flying low. It was awesome. And then, everything was shaking and the needles was falling apart. He ended up landing in a field. Ot wasn't a landing actually. He crashed.
The a380 is the largest plane, larger than the 'Goose
negative sr
the largest yes, but de biger ....is the SG
Large-- SG 218 and 8 inches/ a380 239 and 3 inches
wingspan SG 320 ft, wingspan a380 261ft and 8 inches

The last part was exciting but it was unrealistic because the Goose didn't fly that long [anyway forget the unrealism "I loved that part!"]. 😀
im thinkin the C-5 galaxy my teacher flies it in the air force reserves and he says it is huge but i dont know for sure
So what is the biggest plane? Officialy. ❓
Your teacher flies the C-5 Galexy!! your teacher is cool 😎

no no no the antonov 225 is the biggest plane. it has a wingspan of 89.4 meters and it is 84.3 meters l
And weight: 600 tons
Yes, the Antonov An225 Mriya (dream) is the biggest one. And it has holded 240 world records 😳 , that's why she is in the Guinness book of records. BTW, its maximum takeoff weight was 640 860 kg. 😳 😳
Its the Antonov 225. People say that the airbus A-380 is, but the fine print says its the biggest commercial jetliner. The Spruce goose is big, but I think the 225 is bigger. Oh yeah, Tom the Tank, I couldnt find my post on help with the f-16, so I figured I'd just tell you here. I found out from a friend that I need winzip. So I downloaded a version of it, unzipped the file, and followed your instructions, and its finally on my aircraft selection list! I took it for its maiden flight over Seattle, and it was great! Its the first time in fllight simulator that I ever broke the sound barrier! Thanks for your help, Tom The Tank! 😀 😀 😀
I've seen the A225 from about 100ft away but then i saw a VS747 right next to it on the ground at MCO but the 747 seemed larger.

I don’t really have anything against Airbus. All the same, if it isn’t Boeing, I’m not going!
How? What's wrong with them? Why aircheap? Do they charge less for a ticket?
Please explain!!! ❗ ❗
i just dont like Airbus. theyre "A380" is ......shoulda named it "Abigjoke"
..........
but...WHY??? I'm curious to know what about the aircraft dont you like? is it the flight controls? the paint schemes, the nose windshield?
I love boeing. i really think (no offence to airbus) the A380 is gonna go no where once it gets into service and will achive sucuess like the 747. there is no airbus that had out sold a competing boeing plane. ive checked the stats. boeing took time with all their planes especially now with the 787. then bus comes out of nowhere and one day decides lets build a A350 which i no is a crapy plane and is a copy of the A330.
I agree.

I vote that the Airbus would never have gotten off the ground in the land of fair competition and therefore I say it's no competition to Boeing. The playing field is uneven when you get a host of countries and governments pooling their resources to build a fleet of aircraft. The fact that Airbus needed such a cadre of nations to even get started tells me that it is a golden goose and I believe it shows in the design as mentioned. No good designing by commitee. Must be of one mind about the fundamentals of A/C design. A Boeing is a Boeing is a Boeing and I believe the new 787 will eclipse the new 20 mega ton ostrich-zilla's chances over the l-o-n-g haul!!!
Higher..farther...f-a-s-t-e-r!!! ..New Frontiers!!
i beg too differ but i think if im not mistaken that the B-52 is the biggest with a wopping 8 engines each with 675 horse power by boeing. i have been studying the plane for 9 months now with 6 different models of it. it must be the biggest plane not only in the airforce but in all the fields of aviation. it is truely the biggest and most powerful plane in its class
i THINK in some way u are right, i was looking to them both the (B-52 and the Airbus A-380). and comparing those with the Soviet Antonov An-225.
feew years ago in argentina the bigest aircraft flew i my city it was the Antonov An-124, but then comes to light the An-225.
What u think About An-225 and B-52 dimensions (wingspan)
Antonov An-225
The Antonov An-225 Mriya is a heavy-lift transport. It was designed to carry piggy-back loads which are too big to fit into its fuselage. For example, the Buran Space Shuttle. Mriya means dream. It is the world's largest aircraft in the world. It was derived from the An-124. The An-225 uses 6 engines, whereas, the An-124 has 4 engines.
The An-225 first flew on 21 December, 1988. Only one An-225 was built, however, a second plane may be built.

First, your figures a wrong.
Second, having a lot of engines doesn't make it "big"
Big might mean cubic feet. It might even mean weight. It could even mean total payload. Maybe even wingspan.
There are dragsters with more than 675 hp. Do you seriously believe 8 of them could move a B-52 fast enough to fly?
For the record, the B-52 had Pratt&Whitney TF33-P-3 turbofans rated at 17000 lbs thrust each. Boeing never made engines.

I love Airbus and will stand by it all the way. As a passenger their A320's are better than any other boeing 737 and their 340's offer alot more to the passenger than some of the 747's. As some one who has ventured through both types of planes I enjoy their Airbus as it has more nooks and cranies [e.g. nice sleeping compartments] than most Boeings.
I do like certain aspects about Boeing aircraft. e.g the power on the 747 SP but then again there is the wonderful A340-500 and it's Massive engine.
Airlines are also able to tweak most Airbus engines. Air Mauritius tweaked their engines from C-3 engines to C-4 engines [They are seriously powerful now 😳 😎 ].
The only thing that I enjoy less than Boeing is the Russian made Tupolev aircraft.
The only other manufacturer that I enjoyed as much Boeing is Mc-Donnel Douglas.
Anyway thats just what I think.
Well not only in cubic meters, but if it was it like that the antonov An-225 keeps been bigger than the B-52, i am not trying to fight, but the sininims in spanish are as infinit as the univers, so i could mean another thing; but i am not saying that tha antonov An-225 is better becaus of 6 engines, no, it is because is bigger in fact, check it, i like more de B-52, i have respect for this bomber.

The A345 engines look big because the fusalage is shorter. The GE engines on the 777 are the biggest anyways.

I have no problem with that. I like the B-52 as well. It is just that the number or power of engines has nothing to do with the size of the aircraft.
I don't hate Airbus. I just don't like them. I mentioned that earlier. Just thought I would clear that up.
Yes i agree..., it is a very good aircraft in all aspects.
dont u think...
I may be an outsider but I think i can settle this question of the "World's Largest Aircraft". The Antonov An-225 Mirya Cossack is the "world's largest plane", in dementions and lifting cabalities. It is classified in Jane's, which is what we use in the military even as an authroty on things, as the World's largest Aircraft. It is essentailly a modified An-124, with out a rear loading ramp, 2 extra engines and a modified tail assembly.
yes, have u tryed to land on this runway with an Antonov An-124???, try it it will be an exitant landing.
Go to Country and type Argentina, then in city type Tucuman and then.... 😳
When u do that u´ll now how hard was for the rusian pilots thar land there for an exibition few years ago, the press was ther to intevew the pilots, because of the hugh effort!!!
I've seen video clips of an AN-124 landing. For its size, that plane can land in an incredibly short distance. It appears they like to bring it at a fairly steep angle, flare just over the end of the runway, making sure to keep the nose gear just off the ground till they are firmly on the main gear and then hit the spoilers and reverse thrust.
Remember, demonstrations like the one you described are done with no cargo except, possibly for some ballast to make weight distribution as perfect as possible.
In FS, that landing can be done, though I confess the first couple of times I tried it, the nosegear collapsed. 🙄
Here are some statistics.
PLANE FIRST FLIGHT WINGSPAN (FT) LENGTH (FT) WING AREA (SQ FT) GROSS WEIGHT (LBS) ENGINES
AN 22 1965 211 189 3.713 550.000 4 SHP KUZNETSOV NK-12NV 15,000 LBS
AN 124 1984 240 227 6.760 890.000 4 DT-18T 51,590 LBS
AN 225 1988 290 275 10.280 1.300.000 6 DT-18T 51,590 LBS
GALAXY 1968 222 247 6.200 769.000 4 GE TF-39 50,000 LBS
Sorry if the format doesn't fit the allotted space.
The Hughes HK-4 is the biggest airplane ever.
amermel wrote:

I believe that might be true if you're only considering wing span or surface area of the wings. Because it was built of wood, it might be the heaviest, but I would have to look at a comparison of fusilage specs to see which was larger.

Not "Myra" but "Mriya". It's Ukrainian word for "Dream".
Sorry, but I think it would definately have to be the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress as the largest plane. Eight Jet Engines, wings so long that the tips of the wings have wheels!!!

it's big,but nothing near the other giants.
I must say the A380 is rather small compared to the biggest An-225. Imagine it as a passenger plane.

the antov 225 is a boring plane tofly in fs9 tho. Really wasn't impressed, but it may not have been the most accurate model.

This is a real world discussion. Feel free to join in.
I have stayed on the Queen Mary when I was on the way to NZ from the UK and always wondered what that huge white dome was!
I wonder if there are any downloads for it (Hughes H-4 Hercules) for fs2004, it trually is the biggest plane in the world with 8 engines, a wingspan of 319 feet and a capacity of 750 fully-equipped troops!!! For more info read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spruce_Goose
Some other big ones that no one has mentioned yet are the Lockheed Galaxy and the McDonnel Douglas MD-12, which was a concept for a twin decked MD-11, but was never built.
The AN 225 is bigger the the Hercules in every way that you can define "bigger". If I recall correctly, there is a link in one of the posts in this thread to a site that has the outline of the planes overlaid on each other. The Antonov is clearly bigger. The stats show its engines are more powerful and it is capable of lifting more weight than the Spruce Goose ever was.
The AN 225 is also bigger than the 747 and A380.
The above is from Wikipedia ➡ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Giant_Plane_Comparison.jpg
Well that certainly settles it huh 😉 ?
Great job tailhook!
That is certainly a prettier diagram than the last one I saw.
I'm just waiting for someone to say, "But the wingspan of the Hercules is greater". I will certainly let them have some 🍅

And how many A320s were forced to make emergency landings due to cocked nosegears in the past year.. Compare to the 737 for the same period.
I don't hate Airbus. I just find them so boring. That's the result of design by international committee. Build one aircraft and then make it in different sizes with no innovation. Cookie cutter aircraft.
And, by the way, your post has nothing to do with subject of this discussion.

You should simply believe that Spruce Goose is largest aircraft ever made when calculated using measurements. An-225 wins if calculated using MTOW.
Spruce Goose has larger wing area and how large the aircraft is defined by wing area or MTOW. Spruce Goose beats An-225 by 1688 sq. ft. If I don't remember wrong also the total surface area of Hk-1 is larger than An-225's.
If you want a Spruce Goose to Flightsim you should download this one

You should simply NOT believe that Spruce Goose is the larget aircraft ever made.
This site http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/design/q0188.shtml
clearly states this:
"Your question really comes down to how you decide to compare one plane to another. One of the measurements you mention is wingspan. While this dimension is often used to compare overall size, it is generally not the most accepted measure. Aircraft are usually ranked by weight, the maximum takeoff weight in particular. By this measure, the world's largest plane is the Antonov An-225 built in Ukraine when it was part of the Soviet Union."
Or does this site lies about it too?

Even if you measure the plane by the wingspan, how good is it if it can't fly?

Check the graphic that Oberkommando posted. The AN-225 is clearly longer and the only reason the spruce goose has a greater wing span is because they are not swept back. If your measure the leading edge of the wings of both planes, you would find the wings on the AN-225 are longer.
So, if the AN-225 has a longer fusilage, longer wings, greater MTOW, more power, greater cargo storage area than the spruce goose, can someone claiming the spruce goose is bigger, please tell me what definition of "bigger" they are using?!?!
the worlds biggest airliner is the A380 no other plain in the univers is bigger than the A380

They "diss" themselves by putting mouth in motion before putting brain in gear. The statistics are clear, the graphic posted made it more clear, but some people insist a plane is larger, solely because they like it and wish it was.
This thread has become as meaningless as the one about Pricess Juliana Airport.

please stop, it's pointless to debate this. both boeing and airbus are fine aircraft manufacturers who build safe and productive airliners for the airline industry.
there have been many airbus and boeing crashes alike, so please, let's not argue over who is better. yes, they are competitors, but their products are still the same basic thing: a means of quick and safe transportation of people and goods. and hey.. they work, dont they? 😎
..and i can say the same thing for any other aircraft manufacturer also..
