Baffling English terms

If bafling English terms and phrases sometimes leave you lost for words - your not alone

To prove my point here are some of the dafest examples.

Why does quicksoand work slowly?

Why is a boxing/wrestling ring Square?

How come a guinea pig is neither from guinea or a pig?

Who decided we have noses that run and feet smell?

How comes a slim chance and a fat chance be the same while a wise man and a wise guy are differnet things entirely>
Hamburgers have no ham in them, eggplants have no egg and there is neither pine or apple in pineapple.

If you get one goose and add another goose you have to geese. So why is it that if you get one moose andd add another you don't have two meese?

What sort of world do we live in when your house can go up in flames as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and where an alarm goes oof by going on?

If a rubbish tip is full, does it have to refuse refuse?

and finally why is a bandage wound around the wound?

Sadly there is no answer. But my final thought is.............................

So, the long and the short of it is, if your son and daughter is having struggling to learn English, don't be quick-tempted - because it's all about as clear as mud

So, what?

I love him so I can put his picture where ever I want. However, I still post topics about the Flight Simulator here not about English language.

You didn't answer my question.

All he did was ask a question, you don't have to go ape-shit on him.

Oh snap.

Good lord, are we all 12 years old here or something???

Bartholomew: He's obviously posting a joke, try and think about it in a humorous way.

JVD: Because the rules say the only things you can't have in images in any swearing/porn/religious, he can have a picture of Michael Jackson. Are you going to attack me because I like a 66 year old German folksinger, or a German Metal band?

TTT: Get off your rear and do some parenting around here Razz (HA HA, JOKE...FUNNY)

FEM: Let sleeping dogs lie!

I think i covered about everyone

Not a dickie boo about me....but seen as I am a respected member of society, none needed Razz

I personally thought JVD was very sincere in his questioning....he was only asking why. No jokes, no jibes...just simply asking,

I suppose you're right Bash, just with the talk on Jackson all the time, you can never tell what's mean and what's not. I didn't mean to sound like i was attacking anyone either. Very Happy

The original post was a joke, not meant to be taken seriously and if Bartholomew wants that avatar he's not breaking any "rules".

I asked the question because it's not normal for a South African or a Mauritian [I live in both countries with those people] to have a Michael Jackson picture but I forget that it's not the same all over the world. Anyway why should I have to say sorry [ I never ment any harm "after all my post started by saying I don't need to mock you or anyting"] because i asked why you chose that picture and you went on as if i was mocking you. Well now I know what people on that side of the world like and for that I thank you.

What do you mean by "this side of the world"? And who said I went on as if you were mocking me!?

What you did was, posted a topic about English language on a place where you should be posting things about Flight Simulator.
You sound as though liking Michael Jackson is wrong, so people on your side of the world don't do that, but we who are bad do. I bet you don't even know where my country is.

You don't have to say "sorry" because I don't feel offended, but I bet you wouldn't say it even if I did.

I couldn't but to notice another topic by you here. Why don't you give over 100% on some other message boards, Captain, Sir?

I never meant to cause any problems either, but one last thing I must say: we cannot really continue with flight-sim as this thread is about English terms, so let's just forget about it and start making new ones.

Very Happy

I must say I'm very glad you there sort things out quickly, RadarMan. That I can't say for most of the other forums I have visited.
Keep up the good work and don't let topics get out of control.
