Thanks for the info. I was thinking of a DC-9, but this will do very nicely here. 🙂 Also, he price is very good. 😂
Thanks I think I will check this one out also. 😀
She is a real beaut!!! TTT - my painting hand is getting an itch!!!
WOW!!!!!
that plane there looks AWSOME.
say you paint aircraft.
do you think you could paint me an aircraft?
P.M. me if you get it

I cannot take the credit for painting that a/c - it is one of the liveries that come with the download. My paints don't come up to that standard so you might have second thoughts on the matter

She is a cracker, and for free
Just wish I had the time and patience
Oh, and the skill 🙄
In assignments make sure you have "Tail hook" and "Concorde Nose down" and "Concorde nose up" assigned to a couple of keystrokes
Just a little bit extra 😛

That link^^^is like one of those trick questions that make you fail the exams, right??
I've been all over that site like a rash but can't find the aircraft
I finally downloaded the Repainter Pack hoping that they might have hidden the a/c inside - no luck. There's a whole lotta stuff in there but none of it can fly
Has anyone actually downloaded the a/c?? HEEEELP!!!
Hi Tailhook, I had the same problem, you've got to click here there and everywhere, scroll down this, that and the other page, and in the end, you finish up here. 🙂 http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004ac&DLID=64318
Captain Tailhook, you have failed the exam
The link fourby gives is the same one you get from the Jetcity site
Just incase you need to find it 🙄 Click Fly and Buy and scrool down to the 717 section 😉
Sorry for not providing the avsim link, but when a payware developer starts handing out freebies, they deserve all the credit that they can get 😉
(lets hope a few more will follow in thier footsteps 👍 )
okay, so I failed the exam, but guess what - I'm downloading it as we speak. Now while I share your sentiment TTT that they deserve credit for giving their payware away 👏 I see no reason why they should make the already difficult life of a law-abiding citizen even more difficult-er.
Well, I guess it's just me, I actually got as far as the Buy and Fly section but when I saw the "Shop With Confidence" and "Purchasing Products..." the old paranoia started sneaking up on me again.
How is one to know that the link is hidden all the way down the page??
Thanks for the pointer, Gentlemen - I'll be flying a 717 tonight 😀
I think they hide the link to make you read about their other products
I hope you enjoy it 👍
My only criticism of the plane is it's use of a default MS panel and gauges. I'm retrofitting it with some reality-xp and simflyer gauges.
There is a recommendation for a panel towards the bottom of the page, this time hosted at www.flightsim.com called "717km_p.zip"
I wish it was on avsim. At least they don't use the bogus "all nodes are busy" in an attempt to get money from me.
tomthetank wrote:

Got hold of the panel and the sounds. Gotta have the sounds md9br715.zip also at flightsim.com.
This soundset has two cfg. files - one for the cockpit and one for the cabin - which turns it effectively into two different soundsets 😳 I've never come across that before.
Now she's complete and beautiful, soars like an eagle and sounds like a rocket, great stuff
Cheers 🍻
FYI
I installed the 717 and added the panel. Noticed a few switches appeared to be missing along with a blank display. Did a digontic on the gauges nothing appeard to be missing. Inspection of the panel cfg I detected some varialbes had negative entrys which coincided with the missing switches and display. The short of it removing the - sign allowed all to display. 😉
Nice work lkw, I appreciate your pointer... but... the panel.cfg is in front of me - 😳 --- I cannot find what I'm looking for ❗
Now won't you share your secret with us... Pleease!?!

Nice lesson in tweaking - thanks very much lkw 😀
I would never have found those variables without your help! Works like a breeze. I only just noticed that he's got two panel.cfgs in that folder... they seem to be identical.
I wonder what other tricks you have up your sleeve

Rick
I attempted to post here earlier in the week some how it did not take
I missed a change on my last post.
// gauge88=717!Autospoiler, 1218,-2,40,72 lkw
gauge88=717!Autospoiler, 1218,2,40,72
That is what I thought I posted earlier. Since then I was working on the altitude selection button. You probably noticed it seem out place in that it has a brown back groun and ivory button. I noticed if the button is moved a knob was already depicted on the panel. I had to educate myself on how to rebuild cab files as the knob is in the B717.cab I have now successfuly corrected the knob in two ways. Tweeking the gauge code and making a bit map file. Then realizing if I had a way of extracting the origional cab and rebuilding it with the bit map I would have corrected it much easier. The only other thing I have done on this model is to duplicate the livery so that you can choose between the default 737 panel or the custom panel. If interested in these changes I intend to educate myself on how to share flies from a temporary site as I have noticed RM shares files on occasion. I will post back when I get it figured out. It amounts to needing to replace the B717.cab and the aircraft.cfg files. I guess I could include the panel.cfg. Sory for the long post 😂
Thanks for the addendum Ikw, I've edited gauge88. Re. the altitude selection button - I'd noticed the brown background but put it down to artistic idiosyncracy.
I am certainly interested in further developments of this project ( some of what you've said I still have to digest). At this stage I have only one question: When you say "...duplicate the livery so that you can choose between the default 737 panel or the custom panel..." do you mean the ability to switch between panels by changing priorities in the panel.cfg?
More specifically - I keep all of my 3rd party panels in a separate folder and link them in my panel.cfgs. All panels are commented out // except the one I'm using at the time. This makes switching between panels very easy.
Thanks for sharing your discoveries - looking forward to hearing more,
Rick 😀
Perhaps a sample of my aircraft.cfg will better demostrate what I was refering to.

this allow me to pick panels by changing aircraft. I started with 6 liverys
0-5 I now have 12 0-11 each of the oritional have a cp version.
we are achiving the same results with slightly differnt methods. Still studing into file sharing.
I am also trying to find a way to compare file as I have a tendency not to over write files going into the Gage folder unless they seem to be an later version. some updates have a habit of replacing cpt.toggles.rocker.cab and cpt.icons.cab I think we may be in danger of causing problems with existing aircraft (or at least changing the apperance of some of the items) as these cabs seem to be a commonly used we will be at the mercy of the last saved cab.

Thanks a lot Ikw, you're a workaholic - I for my part will get stuck into it after I've had my 'beauty sleep'
Sorry for my belated reply - mundane (non-virtual) life got in the way. I've swatted over all the documentation you were so kind of forwarding to me, but some essential questions remain.
Rather than risking of being barred from these forums due to the fact that this topic has nothing to do with the seemingly endless quarrel of whether Airbus or Boeing is better or wins out in the end, I'm taking the liberty of sending you a PM, hoping to learn more of your tricks.
Regards,
Rick
Now just hold on a minute Tailhook - I have been following this thread with increasing interest - my knowledge of gauges, etc would not cover a pinhead - but this series of lkw's - has shed light on my darkness of ignorance - and made me keen to learn more. There isn't any chance of an "LKW's Get your gauges back Manual" getting into print - is there? So what am I gonna do if it goes on to PM's????
Please - please - please - keep this thread public.
In my opinion this has been one of the most knowledgeable and worthwhile threads and BTW I would gladly vote for both Airbus and Boeing in an effort to get rid of a pointless debate.
The discovery that others are interested in this topic comes as a pleasant surprise. Problem is davec, we're not only dealing with gauges but also with the most convenient way of juggling panels. With this I am not implying that you have no interest in the 'panel side' of things - but the way I am struggling even with the basics, this could turn out to become a real drain on most member's patience.
To put it bluntly: If this thread remains in the public domain all of you who participate will have to put up with some really stupid questions from 'yours truly'.
- And then there's Ikw - the man is lightyears ahead and I can't help but think that when IBM built 'Big Blue' they used Ikw as a blueprint.
As for Ikw presenting even some of his knowledge in the form of a manual - I wouldn't expect that - just look at what happened to Elkinallen's labour of love dealing with contact points - buried deep within the recesses of more important topics such as toothaches, cats, girlfriends and...
Finally - to determine whether this thread should remain in the public domain or not - I can only see one solution...
Let's have a poll......
Hi Tailhook - I mentally was including panels in the subject but mentally forgot to say that. You should not worry about asking questions - I am at the stage when I don't have enough knowledge to even ask questions!!
I have printed out yours and lkw'sdialogue in full for easy reference.
Maybe, if we ask Radarman nicely, he could make some form of Sticky - say in the 'Other' section - or even introduce a 'Technical' section - it's a thought - I am getting desparate to keep the thing public . Are you there Radarman ❓
Take your point about Elkinallen's very good 'contact point' thread - it would appear that a bit of learning application is way down the list of priorities. Ah! Well was it ever any different??
lkw - do you feel left out of this dialogue?? Of course, all this depends on you being willing to carry on with the 'tutorial' in some shape or form that is readily available - (to hell with this 'one on one' tutoring of tailhook) 😂 😂
Could we have a poll to see if we should have polls???? 😉

I do not mind sharing my tweeks etc. Keep in mind I am by no means and athority on panels, gagues or the innerworking of flight simulator. This exercise is to gain knowledge for myself but I do not object to sharing, as I muddle through the minor changes I would share the successes and failures hopfully to improve or make the panels etc. more to our preferences. By exposing my failure or unneccessary actions keeping some one else from needing to repeat my errors. Any one that would like to share their experiances with us would also be appreciated as we all thend to gain knowledge as we work out the solution.
🙂
Freecomander is a tool I have come across that I think will be a great help in handling and compairing files. http://freecommander.com/
It has dual panels which allows you to compair directories and to move or copy files from one to the other. It also will pack or unpack selected files into a zip or cab format. Another feature I like is a favorite setting that allows you to open both panel in the directories you desire. You could set up desktop and fs9 to open up on command. And the price is right.
😀
Thanks for the link to Freecommander- dowloaded and installed - compared 2 files which I have been sweating over for some time - and BOOM - it spotted the difference in 0 seconds. Simple transposition of . (period) to , (comma). Simplicity itself. Am about to make a donation to FCommander author.
Thanks a lot lkw - as they say in Scotland - "Lang may yer lum reek wi' ither folk's coal" Translated - " Long may your chimney smoke with other folk's coal/fuel oil/gas"
I've been staring at the Freecommander interface now for the last three days - haven't yet figured out what a mere mortal could be using it for 🤔
Any ideas ❓ Thanks.
Some of the ways I have used free comander.
Installing a aircraft instead of opening two windows of explorer I can open freeComander select a favorite (in my case Ctl+Sft+1) and I have my download file in the left window, and C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft on the right window.
I can double click the zip folder on the hilight the paticular aircaraft folder hit F5 the folder is copied to C:\...\Aircraft.
A nice feature of freeComander is the path at the top of both windows. You can click any segment of that path and you are transported to that folder. On the right click Flight Simulator 9 and double click Gauge on the left double click gauge folder (assuming there is one) select all of the gagues and cabs (Ctr+A you can have an icon on the tool tray) hit F5 and you have copied all the gauges to the gauge folder.
FreeComander will also go into cab files unpack let us play tweeking games with the xml and bmp files and for the first reason I got freeComander allow us to hilight files and compact them into a cab file.
I first used a program called cabmaker which required me to make a list of all the files I wanted to pack into a cab. I then found out about cabarc which would allow me to pack everything a folder to a cab. With freeComander I hilight the files I want pick the compress icon select cab and name of the file and presto a cab.
freeCommander has a compair feature if I wanted to know which files in a cab that I just downloaded were different when compaired to a cab already in my gauge file a click of the icon will highlite the files.
There is probably more uses that I have not discovered yet but I have only have been using it for a couple of days. Play with it I think you will probably like it 👍 I my case not having so many sessions of explorer up is a help I already had a shortcut on the quick launch bar for the fs9 folder but when I opened the zip I had a session if I chose to unzip I got another and so on I was continually poping up the explorer tab to select which session I wanted to work with. But it was the cab compression that made me a beliver. 😀

Among your many other talents, please now include that of mind reading - I had spent a couple of hours examining Free Commander on the precise subject you highlighted - transferring downloads to FS9 folders - it can often involve opening several phases of Explorer - and said to myself - I know the man to ask - came on the forum and there it all was - thank you again lkw and BTW your nickname deserves to be on that a/c more than most 🙄

IKW I loaded Jet City's free promo of the Boeing 717 and Ken Mitchell's panel. Flew from Spokane to Seattle without the left panel. Spent some hours trying to figure out why the blank screen. Thanks to you I removed the errant - and now I ready to fly off again.
Thank you again

Welcome to the forums Kenml...
by the way, this thread is over 3 years old... the last post to it before yours was last year april...
And he was 16 months late 😀 !
I know, I know but I had to say something. We just brought the 717 on board two weeks ago. Any other quirks, specs or words of wisdom using Ken's panel would be appreciated.
Thanks for the welcome aboard; just been inactive on this forum.
