Pro Member Trainee
ANThrx Trainee

I'm sure this question has been asked a thousand times. I have been looking at some kewl stuff that are payware but wanted to ask if these are worth the cost... and yes I am into more than just jumpin in and flying that is why I ask. And if they are worth it could someone tip me off to a good one.
Thnx in advance

Payware is usually better than freeware.

What kind of payware product are you looking for?

"Kewl" is American english and is only net slang for "Cool"

Sry all did this post before i was able to realy read all the other posts... found some good info... im wondering which of the larger or smaller planes/jets has more realism?

"Kewl" is internet slang for the word "Cool".

This world is also a slang term for cool but has become a derogatory word used to belittle a person who believes in dangerous activities that could harm themself and/or others.

I don't use this word to imply a derogatory statment. It just produces a differnt tone when read, and cool is not as kewl anymore these days because of its common use by every1 and their grandparents.

Obviously, it is not American English. It is slang, intentionally designed to be incomprehensible to people outside the peer group using it.

My question was rhetorical since I knew what it meant. I was just curious about the reply I'd get.

(Sorry Crash, but he did say it was used as Internet slang in America if you re-read his post. If you're against slang that's fine, but you needn't be sarchastic in your request for more careful attention to language-proper. A little courtesy goes a long way! 😀)

To answer your question though, if you're a jump-in and fly pilot, there are TONs of freeware planes on www.avsim.com that you can combine with freeware panels for some beautiful combinations. You'll be taking screenshots with the pro's in no time 😉 .

I generally like to think of payware as for someone ready to get into what he's buying. I'd easily say 2/3rds of the cost you pay is put into making it as realistically modeled as possible, and usually that means that you have to be willing to train to fly the planes just the same! As far as one being better than another, I'd say this past year has brought about the birth of a lot of incredibly realistic planes from the small GA's, to the executive jets, right up to the heavies! Just do your research and you can find a realistic plane that suits your flying needs.

If you're looking into payware scenery, that's a bit more risky. Some of my absolute favorites were freeware upgrades of LGA, BOS, and BUF, all taken right off the net! The stuff from FlyTampa is just gorgeous, with next to no penalty for using it. But I've also invested in most of the SimFlyers scenery, and have watched them hog my FPS to render some fairly outdated scenery. Just read all the reviews you can 😉

You're right. The intentional degradation of English (US or UK) or any other language is an issue with me. To avoid the possibility of seeming discourteous, I'll avoid replying to those posts that use such slang.

answering the orginal question and staying on topic Ass

i think that payware planes aren't all that, simply because they are generally framerate hoggers, (and i run a decent system, so i know thats true!), and you can get some beautiful freeware planes!

With scenery however, thats totally different in my book, i think payware is the best all the way and has far less bugs.

It is true that old payware aircraft are frame rate hogs, but the newer ones coming out from Feelthere, PSS, and PMDG have all been making some miraculous leaps in performance. With each new product released my old computer seems better capable to run them with some incredibly impressive frames!

originalgrunge, what sort of rates are you getting and on what settings and system specs? i am very intrigued to find out!

Cheers mate

Well, I run an old dell Inspiron8200 laptop. I've got 1 gig of ram, 1.9ghz processor, and a 64 mb. Nvidia GeForce Go card. I also use the freeware FSAutoStart to defrag my RAM and clear out misc. programs and services before flying!

As an example, I run the PMDG 737 with SimFlyers airports airports (in 2d-mode only) at usually around 15 fps when I take off, and down to 5-9 fps for landing. That can get a bit rough! I see slightly better rates (by about 2 fps or so) in the PSS A320, and mostly anything else that I bought way back when.

Now since then I've upgraded to ActiveSkyV Enhanced for my weather / environment and purchased Ultimate Terrain USA, greatly adding to my system load Wink. I can now fly the PMDG 747 from start to finish at the same airports with consistent fps around 16 or so throughout the flight, and with the PSS 777 around 17 fps. It seems like a miracle, but if anything my computer keeps getting older, graphics keep getting better, and yet somehow the designers just keep putting that performance up there!

(By the way, as a reference I can get around 20-24 fps (locked at 24) in default aircraft, occasionally that high with addon textures. I also run all my aircraft in 2d mode when I can, except the Carenado 182 <- it is that gorgeous)

sounds good to me,

i get higher frame rates but have a far higher system spec, which isnt a comment to show off, in fact the purpose of it is that i get 30fps in the air but on the ground only 15 odd and really i should get far higher in comparison to you.

I find that so strange and so hard to understand it really really Censored me off.

Well, don't lose heart! There's a lot you can do. I've worked on this computer for about a year to get it up to this speed. I have it sitting on a "laptop cooling pad" (the equivalent of an extra fan for your processor), defrag my computer fairly regularly, keep my cache/cookies clear, clean out spyware left and right, run FSAutostart and shut down essentially everything but ASV and my Yoke drivers before flying 😉 , and things like that. All in all it takes me roughly 10 minutes + to just start FS, let alone actually get in a plane! I'm sure if you had to put the time in you'd see the same results!

::Sigh::, I can't wait until I can afford a computer like ProSim's new one though.... 🙄

hell yeah! Crying or Very sad

Im a little wary about this Fs Start program that you refer to, i mean i dont want to go closing a process/program that my pc relies on. plus i dont want it to close my firewall or antivirus as im connected to the net whilst flying, (realtime weather etc).
How safe/good is it?

Micah 😉

It works wonders. You can close down as little or as much as you want, and the guy who made it is fairly experienced at giving you advice on which is good and which is bad. As a pop-up over each program when you first set FSAutostart up, he'll give you built in suggestions for what to keep running, and what's only useful when you're just sitting around. I played it safe for a while and kept most things running, but as time went on I got slightly more daring 😉

Wow... my usage of internet slang was not inteded to offend... I am new to this community and am use to chating with other peeps on the net that understand net slang for what it is.... If you feal you are in a higher class and choose to be straight and propper then kewl for you. I dont look down on you for that nor should you to me.. It's a small world lets just share it kindly.

Enough of that... to much time spent on attitude/personality.

Thanx for the input guys... I picked up the legandary 727 and love it. The manual has took little to understand but im trudging my way through it.

If anyone has any input on a smaller craft that is a good one would love to hear it...
Thnx again

Thnx for the reply Tailhook,

I think that is still i little larger than what i was looking for.. thinking more of a single but could be dual prop. Dont see much posted about small planes as far as quality.. (also could be that I'm still trying to skim through the posts).

Thanks again

You're welcome ANThrx,

There are smaller ones which have a good reputation - I don't own any so I'm not sure where to find them. Someone will read this and give you a pointer - just keep checking back 😉

Just found a few, check out this site ➡ http://www.flight1.com/

Oh, Originalgrunge...

Just wanted to thank you as well.... not sure why I was picked for a lashing... I have seen crash on some other posts and he seems kewl...lmao anyway... love the 727 sat up all night getting it going and understanding the total procedure.... that to me is fun. I now am looking for a small plane has lots of features so i can bounce back and forth between the two. Thanx again and I am taking your advise and just researching and asking as much as possible

Thanx again

Welcome to the forums! Sorry that one of your first threads got a little squabble going, but we're all family here, and sometimes a little rough-housing can happen. I have HUGE respect for everyone here, and can't name a single person who doesn't look to bring out the good in eachother!

About the single engines, Jared and I just picked up the www.carenado.com Cessna 182 Skylane RG II and are both VERY impressed with the quality of this plane. The handling, performance, and just everything about it makes you fall in love with the plane. The VC is SO gorgeous and framerate friendly that I never really leave it! They even managed to capture the sun-glare on the leather dash, which moves depending on your angle with the sun!

I went to a Prom gathering yesterday (no...NOT my own) and as I deem such meetings to be the best place to upgrade my poor understanding of net slang, I was looking forward to the event.

Unfortunately no one seemed to know what 'nOOb' stands for Wall Bashing

You have my sympathy. I try my best to avoid being where there are people who use slang. It makes weaving through the threads here very challenging.

Well I figured since there seems to be no way of escaping the 'upgrade/update' trend I might as well keep my language skills (or lack thereof) updated... Umm... ...or should that be upgraded...?? Doh!

Ok... ok,ok,ok..... I get the point...

I truly do not use net slang to try and complicate my post. It is more just a habbit. (bad or good). Maybe my prob (problem) is that I am used to a diff (different) community. as crashgorden stated earlier,

"It is slang, intentionally designed to be incomprehensible to people outside the peer group using it."

That is not intentional... its just that my peer group here is a large one and i never had anyone have probs with what I am typing. I figure this is a place where people can be who they are... and that is what I intend on doing. I am a father of 4 and have just been in the net and gaming scene for a very long time. My spelling sucks and so does my usage of net slang. For those that dissaprove I do appologize. However I will still continue being me. I do find it odd that someone would entrap me into saying something that only would indulge themselves and be so critical at the same time.

"My question was rhetorical since I knew what it meant. I was just curious about the reply I'd get."

Crashgorden, I am sorry we got off on the wrong foot. I hope that my (net) language barrier will not hurt the possability of me getting any advise from you. I have been totaly wraped in this new thing and am hoping to go further but would like to be able to get pointers from people more experienced than me... even though we may talk/type different.

Please don't let my indefferentialaty seperate me from the rest. So far this has been a great place. I would like to be apart of... but if it means that i cant be myself.. than no thanx. If you cant handle someone speaking/typing differnet than you maybe the person you should be talking to is right in front of you. This world is made of all kinds and what would we be if we were not different. Diversity is what makes this place beautiful.

Radarman, Good job on the nOOb thang oh ya it is reverse caps for correct slang... lol (lough out loud)

Just one more thang Crash on the qoute you sent

Did you happend to notice that they used "every1" for "everyone" is that not net slang that you used yourself..? hmmm something to think about.

All in all, please if anything, let me be me and if i introduce you to some terrible usage of language that just looks at the lighter side of things.. either let it go or ask for an explination... i would be glad to comply.

ANThrx,
Hi M8 lol,
The problem with slang on this forum is that it a forum that caters to the world not just North America.
The flight sim is used in almost every country you can think of and we have members from all of them.
This site is truly a microcosm of the world, sometimes I'm amazed at where members live.

Thnx Crash... I realy hope i dont turn you off from me because I have read alot of your stuff here and I would love your input on things... all props bro' not sure how old you are but i gotta say I myself am a grumpy 35. Liked your input on the cessna 310. I was looking for a smaller craft and could not decide between the 310 or the 337 skymaster... which i found you owned... I ended up picking up the 310 just because it sounded more dificult to fly.... Question if you dont mind... which of the 2 do you prefer..? It looks and seems as though the 310 captures alot of flight charactoristics... possible more than the eye candy that the 337 appears to contain. Is the 337 worth owning? or should i stick to my 310?

LMAO.... Radarman... luv the m8 thang.... never sean that one.... I have played alot of net games over the world but truly I have not been in a community that is as global as this one... wow... very kewl...

Age-wise, you won't catch up with me anytime soon.

For just pleasant sight-seeing, I like the 337. I keep it on St. Maarten and go island-hopping. When the Carribean gets boring, I'll cart it off to the Greek Isles.

If I want to cover some ground and have mountains to cross, the 310 is fun.

When I want a sensible, good-handling plane with modern avionics, I have their Beech Bonanza A36. Weather radar and all.

Oops, gotta run. almost time to bring the Boeing 767 into St Maarten.

I've actually been there. Nice place.
