Asked

I can’t fly FSX: Steam Edition because Steam won’t accept my user account.

I’m getting the user account error OxC47, and my PIN does not work.

I’m using Windows 10. Please help.

OxC47 + “PIN won’t work” (FSX:SE on Win10)

James — this is almost always a Steam sign-in / Windows credentials prompt issue, not FSX:SE itself. FSX:SE won’t run unless Steam is already logged in cleanly, so the fix is to get Steam happy first.

Step-by-step things to try

1) Confirm what account you’re trying to sign into

  • FSX: Steam Edition uses your Steam account (Steam username + Steam password).
  • Your Windows 10 PIN is only for Windows sign-in/unlock (and some Microsoft prompts). It normally will not authenticate Steam.

2) Fully exit Steam (don’t just close the window)

  • Down by the clock, right-click the Steam icon in the tray and click Exit.
  • Then start Steam again from the Start menu and try signing in again.

3) If you’re being asked for a PIN, switch to password
If the login box you’re seeing is a Windows security prompt (often looks like a generic Windows credential window), look for something like:

  • More choices
  • Use a password instead

Then use your Windows account password (not the PIN) to get past that prompt.

4) If Steam is asking for credentials, use Steam password (or reset it)

  • If you can’t remember your Steam password, use the password reset option on the Steam login screen.
  • If Steam Guard / 2FA is enabled, make sure you’re completing the Steam Guard code step as well (email/app).

5) Quick sanity checks that genuinely matter for logins

  • Make sure Windows date/time/time zone are correct (wrong clock can break sign-ins and token checks).
  • If you’re on a VPN/proxy, disable it temporarily and test.
  • Reboot once after doing the above (sounds basic, but it clears stuck credential prompts surprisingly often).

A couple of quick questions so I can point you to the exact fix path

  • Where exactly do you see “OxC47” — inside Steam, in a Windows credential pop-up, or inside FSX itself?
  • Are you launching FSX:SE from within the Steam Library, or from a desktop shortcut?
  • When it asks for a PIN, does the box look like a Windows “Security / Credential” prompt, or is it clearly Steam’s own login window?

Post back with those details (even just a quick description of the window), and we can narrow it down to the right set of steps without guessing.
