Can I set up an approach with the GPS 500 so that it indicates if I'm too high or too low on approach?

No, the GPS will not give vertical guidance. There is a rough VSR display on the LH side of the GPS , I think its Vertical Speed Reference that gives recommended vertical speed to the airport but it's advisory in nature and not guidance.

Thanks I was reading all through the manual on it thinking it did. That clears that up. I just found out though that my Eurofighter instrument GPS has this feature. 😂
