Waypoint Distance

When using the FMC in the Level-D 767, or in any other aircraft that has a functioning FMC, there is Waypoint Distance shown in (i.e.) 1nM, 1nM, 4 nM, 32 nM, and 64 nM. What does this "nM" mean?

I am currently reading the full Level-D 767 manual and it has many things I don't understand so if you guys could bare with me here that would be nice. 😀
