How do I setup the AP (autopilot) to a desire altidude so that the AP will maintain this altitude under AP?

There is a small rectangular black instrument with red numbers in it. You can click on the left or right side of the numbers to increase/decrease your altitude. Then depress the ALT and AP buttons which border the instrument.
