I am flying along and without warning FSX is gone and I am back to the desktop? The only thing that I noticed was right before this happened, the screen got a little jerky for a second, then when I switched views it blinked off gone...no fatal error warning this time just back to the blue desktop screen?
My guess it's the heat.
The computer is overheating and the fans need to be cleaned.
The CPU and the Video card fans being the important ones.
Second guess, if this is happening at the same area every time then it's the scenery which has a fault.
Ok..I am going to open the computer case and do a cleaning. I also want to check out the mouse because it happened right after I changed views and used the mouse to look around, but I concur the fans do need to be cleaned. However, I was at a different flying location over Lake Michigan this time instead of heading to St. Augustine, Fla. I deleted REX because I thought that was the cause of the problem...still do. Do you happen to know if 'Active Sky is worth a try and if so where can I buy it? I tried simMarket, but they didn't accept my credit card??? Thanks RadarMan! This is a great website and forum that you guys have here.
Let us know how you do after cleaning.
I don't use any weather add-ons, I used to a long time ago but nothing now and don't even remember what I used.
Sometimes you think something is cleaned out (REX) but something remains.
Look in every folder area for anything left and clean the registry.
As for Active Sky, simmarket seems to be the only place to buy it but they accept different types of payment.

I just cleaned everything and still the same problem although this time it said fatal error and restarted FSX. I really think REX is the problem because I didn't have any problems until I bought it what a waste of money. How do I clean the registry? I bought a program called 'Error Tech' and it's supposed to do this?? I am not going to buy anymore weather add-on. This is terrible I can't even complete a flight. I thought that I deleted everything REX but where should I look to make sure? Thanks RadarMan. 😕
Go to computer/"C" drive / double click it and start looking into the folders.
As for the registry I like http://www.regvac.com/regvac.htm
Be careful that they don't try to add a toolbar or Anti Virus onto it.
There are others out there that do the same job, check around before you try one.
Just feed registry cleaner into Google and you'll come up with a dozen.
If you screw up the registry you'll have to reinstall Windows.
ok...thanks. I surely don't want to reinstall windows. It is still doing it. I am going to try a different mouse just to see if that is the problem. I will let you know.
If changing the mouse and deleting the software that came with doesn't work try cleaning out the old video card drivers and loading new ones.
You were reading my mind! I did download new Nvidia drivers and the same problem. I think I am going to try X Plane 10. Where can I buy the boxed version? Thanks RadarMan. I have heard so many cool things about x plane 10 and I am curious.
We have it here.

Why not follow Microsoft's uninstall process and reinstall FSX.
This works for FSX.
Thanks...I am not sure what to do. I like the features of x-plane but wonder if the graphics are as good as FSX. Is it very difficult to download and add aircraft and scenery to x-plane? Do you think x-plane is a good sim? Thanks radarman!
It keeps getting better and better.
I know a few people who have it and don't care for it but then there are those who love it (check the X-Plane forum here).
A while back I was thinking of getting it along with FSX but when I read the posts in the official forum they were a bunch of nasty kids, similar to a Linux forum where they poke fun at you because your not a pro.
It may have changed by now, the best bet would be to take a look at the forum.
The Demo will run on but you can only use your joystick for 15 minutes, ridiculous isn't it.
Yes it should never be nasty. I joined Avsim and they were really nasty...so I didn't donate $100.00 like I would have. I will check the forum too. I just love aviation and I do love FSX but when I couldn't fly without it crashing I gave up. I am quite sure it's an add-on of some sort, but to sort it all out is not going to happen. > will be flying soon but not sure with what software. Thanks again! 🍻
👍 Good luck on whatever you choose.
I decided not to go with X Plane 10 because of the lack of airports and some other tedious details. I think I will reinstall FSX and hope things don't crash when I add on a few things that seemed ok before the REX nightmare. Is Active Sky a cool program or does this program seem to have many problems too? Thanks!
Any add-on can be a problem depending how it mixes with whatever else you added on.
Normally it's a good program, good luck with it.
I reinstalled FSX and no problems so far. A while back you had an information sheet that showed the basic settings for the sim (FSX) how do I find this info again? I should have written them down. Thanks!

Don't even remember that.
The best way is to set the slides as far to the right as you would like that particular one.
After setting all of them fly over a graphic intensive area like Sydney Airport and see what problems you have.
Now go back and adjust some of the slides right or left.
The ones that use up most resources are autogen, clouds, shadows, Ai and of course scenery.
Roger, I think I have it looking pretty good now. I am going to invest in a Nivdia 660 Ti. I can do this and not have to increase the wattage on the PSU. I will let you know and thanks Radarman! 😀
