Hey there! I understand you're facing some challenges with getting FreeMeshX up and running in your Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX). Let's tackle this together, step by step. You've done a great job following the installation instructions, but sometimes even the smallest oversight can throw a wrench in the works.

Firstly, it's crucial to ensure that the extracted FreeMeshX files are in a stable location on your PC. Moving these files after adding them to the Scenery Library can cause issues.

Now, let's dive into the process:

1. Verifying the Extraction Path

  • Reconfirm the location where you extracted the FreeMeshX files. They should be in a permanent spot on your hard drive.

2. Adding Scenery in FSX

  • In FSX, head to the 'Scenery Library' via the settings menu.
  • Go through the 'Add Area' process again for each FreeMeshX region. Ensure you're selecting the 'scenery' folder within each regional folder.

3. Prioritizing in the Scenery Library

  • FreeMeshX folders should be at the top of your Scenery Library list, above other add-ons. This determines their loading priority.

4. Addressing the FSX Bug

  • If you encounter the bug where clicking 'OK' does nothing, click on any white space in the browsing window. This should close the dialog and save your changes.

5. Restarting FSX

  • After adding all regions, close FSX and then reopen it. This refreshes the simulator with the new scenery data.

6. Checking In-Game

  • Once FSX is running again, fly over areas where FreeMeshX should have an effect. Observe if there are noticeable changes in terrain quality.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, consider the following:

7. Compatibility Check

  • Make sure your version of FSX is compatible with FreeMeshX. Also, check if there are any updates for FreeMeshX.

8. Conflicts with Other Add-ons

  • If you have other terrain or scenery add-ons, they might be conflicting with FreeMeshX. Try disabling them temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

If you've gone through all these steps and still face issues, it might be helpful to provide more specific details. Which regions are you trying to view? Are there any error messages? The more information you provide, the better we can assist.

Remember, FSX, despite its age, can sometimes be finicky with add-ons, especially ones that significantly alter its terrain database like FreeMeshX. Patience and careful troubleshooting are key.

In terms of compatibility, these steps are tailored for FSX but can be relevant to other platforms like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and X-Plane 12, especially in the context of add-on installation and scenery library management.
