This idea was born out of re-visiting the Lessons by Rod Machado in FSX >> Learning Centre.
I wanted a series of text instructions that I could follow to practise VOR approaches and instrument flying. After developing these practise flights, I decided to publish them, and welcome any others to share their flights here in this thread.
Typical instrument flying conventions for the Cessna C172
Climbs: 75 knots | Banks: 20 degrees | Ascending Turns: 85 knots | Descents: 95 knots

Following charts can be found as printable A4 charts in the FSX Lessons. If the chart is shown mid document - just highlight it - then [Print] - then in the print dialog select [Selection] - - and it will print just the chart alone. Where to find the charts >>

In my opinion: -
Use full realism settings except maybe disable gyro drift. (Especially for long flights where you use autopilot and time compression on some of the long cruise vectors.)
Use Free Flight >> Current Weather >> Weather Themes >> Fair Weather (Ensuring calm conditions and VFR rules and freedom to land on given runways without having a tail wind - - ATC may direct opposite to what the chart and plan dictates - - just follow the plan and ignore ATC - - this is practise.)
Suggested Mixture:
2000ft - 70%
4000ft - 50%
6000ft - 40%
8000ft - 33%
10000ft - 28%

Paine to Tacoma
KPAE . TakeOff RWY 34L . Climb to 1700 ft | Ascending Turn Left to 185 . Climb to 5000 ft | Track PAE VOR 110.6 outbound 197 to "KTSAP" ex 12.2 Nm | Turn Left BRG 158 . Track TCM VOR 109.6 inbound 158(338 radial) | (Maybe use autopilot and time compression to cover 30 Nm until 5 Nm to TCM) | When over TCM, Turn Left BRG 066, to "FACTS" | Turn Left BRG 338. Track the SEA VOR 116.8 inbound 338 and execute chart VOR approach and land KSEA RWY 34R .
Tacoma to Paine
KSEA . TakeOff RWY 34R . Climb to 1500 ft | Ascending Turn Right to HDG 070 .Climb to 4500 ft | Intercept and track the SEA VOR 116.8 outbound 055 radial | (As you reach 12 Nm ex SEA, you will see three TV towers on top of a hill. These mark the next turning point) | At ex 14 Nm SEA, Turn Left HDG 315. Track PAE VOR 110.6 inbound on the 135 radial(HDG 315) | At about 7 Nm to PAE, Descent to 2400 ft | Cross PAE and Turn HDG 340. Execute chart VOR approach and land KPAE RWY 16R .

KSMO . TakeOff RWY 03 . Climb to 1200 ft | Ascending Turn Right South to cross LAX VOR 113.6 . Climb to 3500 ft | Over LAX Turn Left and follow outbound 145 radial | At "PADDR" Turn Left HDG 092 | Intercept and track SXC VOR 111.4 outbound HDG 039. Descend to 1500 ft | At "MIDDS" Turn Left and track SLI VOR 115.7 inbound HDG 300 | VOR approach and land KLGB RWY 30 .
Long Beach to Santa Monica
KLGB . TakeOff RWY 30 . Climb to 1200 ft | Ascending Turn Right to 050 . Climb to 4300 ft | Intercept and track SLI VOR 115.7 outbound HDG 348 | At "MACWO" Turn Left HDG 275 on the VNY VOR 113.1 inbound 275 track | At "DARTS" Turn Left HDG 212, and track the SMO VOR 110.8 inbound 212 | VOR approach and land KSMO RWY 21

Descend to 3000 ft | At "BEIRA" Turn Right HDG 076 direct to RDD VOR 108.4 | Over RDD Turn Right HDG 175 and execute chart VOR approach and land KRDD RWY 34 .
