Do the big planes, like the B747, have 2D panels like the default planes?

2D panels on the “big” aircraft (like the 747)

Hi Phill,

It depends on which sim you mean and which 747 you’re talking about (default vs payware), because 2D panels are handled very differently across platforms.

General rule of thumb:

  • Default aircraft in older sims (FSX / FSX:Steam / Prepar3D) often included a 2D panel, including the heavier jets.
  • Many modern add-on airliners focus on the virtual cockpit only and either provide no 2D panel at all, or they provide limited “2D pop-up” windows (FMC, radios, overhead) rather than a full-screen classic 2D cockpit.
  • MSFS (2020/2024) generally doesn’t use traditional full 2D cockpits the way FSX/P3D did; most aircraft are VC-first with pop-out panels/windows where supported.

If you’re specifically on FSX:Steam Edition (since you posted in the Steam Version forum):

  1. The default 747 in FSX/FSX:SE does include a 2D cockpit/panel view.
  2. Whether an add-on 747 includes a full 2D panel is completely up to the developer—many do not.

If you tell me:

  • Which sim you’re on (FSX:SE, P3D, MSFS, etc.)
  • Which 747 (default, or which add-on)
  • And whether you mean a full 2D cockpit or just 2D pop-up panels

…I can give you the exact answer and where to access it in that sim.
