Does it seem like the Xbox login glitch in MSFS has come back? It’s an incredibly annoying issue, and fixing it already took up a lot of my time in the past.

Is this just another typical push by Microsoft to bully the captive audience of users paying for their Windows/Apps monopoly into installing the failed Windows 11, or else?

Rhetorical question.

MSFS Xbox sign-in glitch (PC) — a few practical things to try before blaming Win11

I get the frustration — when the Xbox / Gaming Services auth stack goes sideways, MSFS is basically dead in the water until it’s cleaned up. The good news is this usually isn’t “you must move to Windows 11” so much as one of the Xbox app / Gaming Services / Store components getting stuck after an update.

Here’s what I’d do, in this order, to get you back in the air without nuking your whole install.

1) Quick sanity checks

  1. Make sure you’re signing into the same Microsoft account everywhere (Microsoft Store, Xbox app, and in MSFS if it prompts). Mixed accounts is a classic cause.
  2. Reboot once (yes, really) before deeper steps. The Gaming Services processes love to hang in the background.

2) Repair/Reset the usual culprits (no reinstall yet)
In Windows Settings go to Apps and hit the built-in repair/reset options for these items (do them in this order):

  1. Gaming Services (Repair, then Reset)
  2. Xbox app (Repair, then Reset)
  3. Microsoft Store (Repair, then Reset)

After that, reboot and try launching MSFS again.

3) Force a clean Store cache
If the above doesn’t stick, run this and then reboot:

wsreset

Then open Microsoft Store and let it sit for a minute (it often needs a moment to repopulate/update).

4) Check for pending updates (Store + Windows)

  1. Open Microsoft Store and check for app updates (especially Xbox / Gaming Services).
  2. Run Windows Update and make sure you don’t have a half-installed update waiting for a restart.

5) Sign out/in (only after the repairs above)
Sign out of the Xbox app and Microsoft Store, reboot, then sign back in (again, same account everywhere). This sometimes refreshes the token chain that MSFS relies on.

A couple quick questions so we’re not guessing

  1. Are you on the MS Store version of MSFS or Steam version?
  2. Which Windows version/build are you currently on (Win10/Win11, and if you know it, the build number)?
  3. What exactly happens when it fails — does it loop the sign-in, throw an error code, or just never logs in?
  4. Did this start right after a Windows Update or a Store/Xbox app update?

Answer those and I can narrow it down to the fastest “least destructive” fix for your specific case.
