I tried to install the FSUIPC4 add-on, but it’s asking for a registration key. Where do I get the key?

Expert Answered

Hi Torrenaga,

FSUIPC4 can be installed and used *unregistered* in FSX — so the installer prompting for a key usually just means you’ve grabbed the full installer which includes the option to enter a key for the *registered features*.

Where the key comes from

  • If you purchased FSUIPC4 previously, your registration key (and the installer details) would have been provided at the time of purchase (typically in the purchase confirmation info / email from the vendor you bought it from).
  • If you haven’t purchased it, then you don’t have a key — and you can simply skip registration during install and still use the free/unregistered functionality (many add-ons only need the “FSUIPC interface” part, which works unregistered).

What to do during the install

  1. Re-run the FSUIPC4 installer.
  2. When it asks about registration, choose the option to not register / leave the key fields blank (depending on what the installer screen shows).
  3. Complete the install and then start FSX once so it can load FSUIPC and create its initial files.

One important gotcha
If you’re being asked for a key and it won’t let you continue without one, that’s not normal behavior for the standard FSUIPC4 installer. In that case it’s worth double-checking exactly what installer package you downloaded (and from where), because it should still allow an unregistered install.

Quick questions so I can steer you correctly

  • Are you on FSX boxed, FSX:Steam Edition, or Prepar3D?
  • Does the installer allow you to continue if you leave the registration info blank, or is it blocking you?
  • What version number does the installer show on the first screen (if it shows one)?
